Paul Vervaeck
Paul Vervaeck (born 7 March 1956) is a Belgian former professional basketball coach. He coached several clubs in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, as well as the Belgium national under-20 and Netherlands national under-18 teams. Coaching career Born in Mechelen, Vervaeck began his coaching career as an assistant with Maes Pils Mechelen in 1987. The following years he went on to coach Duvel Willebroek, Bree, Den Helder (in the Netherlands), CEP Fleurus, AB Contern (in Luxembourg), Kangoeroes. In 2013, Vervaeck took over his biggest club thus far when he became the head coach of the Antwerp Giants. On 16 June 2016 Vervaeck was announced as head coach of ZZ Leiden. Under his guidance, Leiden finished as runner-up in both the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) and the NBB Cup in the 2017–18 season. After his second season, he left the club for Kangoeroes Mechelen. Basketball coaching is the act of directing and strategizing the behavior of a basketball team or individual basketball player. Basketball coaching typically encompasses the improvement of individual and team offensive and defensive skills, as well as overall physical conditioning. Coaches also have the responsibility to improve their team by player development, strategy, and in-game management. Coaches also teach and inspire their team to be their best. Coaching is usually performed by a single person, often with the help of one or more assistants. Netherlands Men's National Under-18 Basketball Team
The Netherlands men's national under-18 basketball team is the national junior representative for the Netherlands in international under-18 basketball tournaments. They are governed by Basketball Nederland. The team competes at the FIBA U18 European Championship, with the opportunity to qualify for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup. The current coach is Paul Vervaeck. In 2018, the team won its first medal when it won gold at the 2018 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B tournament. NBB Cup
The Basketball Cup, formerly the NBB Cup ( nl, NBB-Beker), is an annual cup competition for Dutch basketball teams organised by the Basketball Nederland. Every team in the Netherlands can participate by signing up for the preliminary rounds. Professional basketball teams from the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) enter the tournament in the fourth round. From 1977 until 1990 professional teams were not allowed to participate in the competition. The tournament is organized in a knock-out format, with quarter- and semi-finals being two-legged series while the final is played in a single game. Heroes Den Bosch and Donar are the two clubs with the most cup titles, as both have a total of 7 titles. Dutch Basketball League
The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly the Eredivisie, was the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). Since 2021, the league has been replaced by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. The league had a closed system: to participate, a team has to have enough money and potential. The league began in 1960 as the ''Eredivisie'' and was organized by the NBB and later the FEB. In 1977 the league introduced play-offs. As of 2019, the Dutch Basketball League consists of ten teams and plays under the FIBA rules. Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen
Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen, also known as Kangoeroes or Kangoeroes Mechelen, is a basketball club based in Mechelen, Belgium. Founded in 2009, the club plays in the BNXT League. Kangoeroes have been playing in the top tier division in Belgium for years, since 2013. Previously, the team played in Boom and Willebroek. In 2018, the club moved to Mechelen. History The club was founded in 2009, as a result of a merger between BBC Kangoeroes Willebroek and Boom BBC. The team name was BBC Kangoeroes Boom, but in summer 2013 the team was renamed Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek. In the 2013–14 season, Kangoeroes entered the professional first tier Ethias League. BV Den Helder was a professional basketball club from Den Helder, Netherlands. The team had several seasons in the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional league in the Netherlands. The club is currently inactive, however Den Helder Suns has replaced the club as professional team from Den Helder. The club has won the Dutch League six times and the NBB Cup once.
