Patrick Selepe
Patrick Selepe is a South African wheelchair tennis player, coach, mentor, sports administrator and umpire. He is well known for his remarkable contributions to wheelchair tennis in South Africa and he is also regarded as one of the pioneers of wheelchair tennis in South Africa when it was introduced to the country in 2003. Patrick is also one of the founding members of the Wheelchair Tennis South Africa which was established in 2005. He also served as the national development officer of Wheelchair Tennis South Africa. He is the first disabled umpire to officiate in a wheelchair Paralympic event which he achieved at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Biography Patrick hails from Botlokva, Limpopo. He was diagnosed with bone cancer and his left leg was amputated above the knee in 1996 at the age of 19. He was still in the final year of his high school when his leg was amputated. 2020 Summer Paralympics
The , branded as the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, was an international multi-sport parasports event held from 24 August to 5 September 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. They were the 16th Summer Paralympic Games as organized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Originally scheduled to take place from 25 August to 6 September 2020, both the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics were postponed by a year in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the rescheduled Games still referred to as ''Tokyo 2020'' for marketing and branding purposes. Limpopo
Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane, while the provincial legislature is situated in Lebowakgomo. The province is made up of 3 former homelands of Lebowa, Gazankulu and Venda and the former parts of the Transvaal province. The Limpopo province was established as one of the new nine provinces after South Africa's first democratic election on the 27th of April 1994. Bone Cancer
A bone tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue in bone, traditionally classified as noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Cancerous bone tumors usually originate from a cancer in another part of the body such as from lung, breast, thyroid, kidney and prostate. There may be a lump, pain, or neurological signs from pressure. A bone tumor might present with a pathologic fracture. Other symptoms may include fatigue, fever, weight loss, anemia and nausea. Wheelchair basketball is basketball played by people with varying physical disabilities that disqualify them from playing a non-disabled sport. These include spina bifida, birth defects, cerebral palsy, paralysis due to accident, amputations (of the legs, or other parts), and many other disabilities. Fanie Lombaard (also spelled Lombard; born 29 May 1969) is an athlete and Paralympian from South Africa competing in P42 pentathlon and F42 throwing events. He competed in the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. There he won a gold medal in the men's Pentathlon - P42 event, a gold medal in the men's Discus throw - F42 event, a gold medal in the men's Shot put - F42 event and a silver medal in the men's Javelin throw - F42 event.
