Patrick Beckert
Patrick Beckert (born 17 April 1990) is a German Olympic speed skater. Becket finished in 22nd place in the 5000 m at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He missed one race because his mobile phone was turned off. He was the fourth reserve for that race, and neither he nor the German team manager thought he would be selected. The Olympic Games officials attempted to call all four reserves after a skater withdrew just one hour before the race, but none four skaters were reachable. He has set eleven German records in the senior division, seven German records in the junior division, and eight championship records. He was the first German speed skater to skate the 10000 meter under 13 minutes and the 3000-meter event under 3:40 minutes. At the end of the 2018–2019 season, Beckert was the highest-placed German skater (27th) on the Adelskalender samalog table with 147.980 points. 2012 European Speed Skating Championships
The 2012 European Speed Skating Championships was the 37th continental speed skating event for women and the 106th for men, that was held at the City Park Ice Rink in Budapest, Hungary, from 6 to 8 January 2012. The competition was also a qualifying event for the 2012 World Allround Speed Skating Championships as the entry quotas were allocated according to the results of the European Championships. In the absence of defending champion Ivan Skobrev, who did not participate due to an injury, Dutchman Sven Kramer took the men's European title. This was his fifth victory, having won previously four consecutive European Championships between 2007 and 2010. 2010 World Allround Speed Skating Championships
The 2010 World Allround Speed Skating Championships were held at the indoor ice rink of the Thialf in Heerenveen, Netherlands on 19, 20 and 21 March 2010. Defending champions were Martina Sáblíková and Sven Kramer. Both succeeded to prolong the title. For Sáblíková it became her second world allround title. Kramer became world allround champion for the fourth time, he is the first person to do so four times in a row. Other world allround champions to win four titles are Ivar Ballangrud and Rintje Ritsma, and only Oscar Mathisen and Clas Thunberg won five times (see Number of World Allround Speed Skating Championships per person). Jonathan Kuck who became second was the big surprise of the tournament. This 20-year-old former short track skater got 149.558 points which was his PB. ISU Speed Skating World Cup
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup is a series of international speed skating competitions, organised annually by the International Skating Union since the winter of 1985–86 ISU Speed Skating World Cup, 1985–86. Every year during the winter season, a number of competitions on different distances and on different locations are held. Skaters can earn points at each competition, and the skater who has the most points on a given distance at the end of the series is the winner. Initially not very popular with skaters nor spectators, the World Cup has gradually become more and more popular, and this was due to the creation of the World Single Distance Championships. World Junior Speed Skating Championships
In 1971, the ISU congress decided to hold a World Junior Speed Skating Championships. After two test-championships (1972 and 1973), where only a boys' competition was held in the 1972 edition, the first official championship was introduced in Cortina d'Ampezzo. In this championship boys and girls could enter. Since this championship the World Junior Speed Skating Championships are held every year. The distances the boys have to skate in a championship were the 500m, 1500m, 3000m, and the 5000m. In 2015 the 1000 metres replaced the 3000m as part of the allround competition. Girls have the 500m, 1000m, 1500m and the 3000m on the programme. In 2002 the team pursuit was added to the allround competition and the 2009 edition saw the introduction of medals for the individual distances.
