Patrick Joseph Barry DD (November 15, 1868 – August 12, 1940) was an Irish-born prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine in Florida from 1922 until his death in 1940. Biography Early life Barry was born in County Clare, Ireland, one of 18 children of Michael and Catherine (née Dixon) Barry. After attending national school, he enrolled at Mungret College in Limerick in 1887, taking exams in the Royal University of Ireland from which he graduated. In 1890, he began his studies for the priesthood at St. Patrick's College in Carlow. As a seminarian, he was recruited to serve the missions in Florida in the United States. Priesthood Barry was ordained a priest for the Diocese of St. Augustine on June 9, 1895. After his ordination, Barry was appointed as a curate at Immaculate Conception Parish in Jacksonville, Florida. He later worked as a chaplain for the US Armed Forces during the Spanish–American War. Sir Patrick Redmond Joseph Barry, MC (4 September 1898 – 6 May 1972) was a British barrister and High Court judge. Biography Patrick Barry was the son of Redmond Barry, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, and of Ethel Barry, ''née'' Pyke. He was educated at Downside School, Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and Balliol College, Oxford. He joined the Irish Guards in 1917, and served with the 1st Battalion, Irish Guards in France and Germany from 1918 and 1919 as a lieutenant and adjutant, and transferred to the Reserve of Officers in 1919. He was awarded the Military Cross for his wartime service. Barry was called to the Bar in 1923 and joined the Northern Circuit. Nicknamed "Paddy Barry", he had a large general practice. In 1929, he contested Bolton for the Liberal Party at that year's general election, coming in last. He became a King's Counsel in 1938. Patrick Barry (born 1951) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Glen Rovers and St. Nicholas' and was also a dual player with the Cork senior teams. Early life Born and raised in Ballyphehane, Barry first played as a schoolboy in various juvenile competitions with Ballyphehane National School before later lining out as a student at Sullivan's Quay CBS in Cork. After beginning his clerical studies at St Patrick's College in Maynooth, Barry was part of the university's first ever Fitzgibbon Cup team. Maynooth University contested four successive finals during his time there and Barry won successive Fitzgibbon Cup titles in 1973 and as team captain in 1974. Pat Barry (kickboxer)
Patrick Joseph Barry (born July 7, 1979) is a former American mixed martial artist and kickboxer who competed as a heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is particularly known for his low kicks. Barry began practicing Sanda while a college student and won numerous titles at domestic and international level before joining K-1 in 2005 where he competed for two years, mostly as a participant on the promotion's North American events. In 2008, he embarked on a career in MMA, winning his first three fights by knockout before signing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and competing in the promotion for the next five years as a Heavyweight, compiling a 5–7 record with only one of the matches going the distance.
