Patricia Marshall
Patricia Marshall (January 13, 1924 – December 11, 2018) was an American actress and singer. Marshall performed in Broadway plays, two feature films, and a television episode. She won an award in 1946 for one of her Broadway performances. Biography and career Marshall was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 13, 1924, as Marriam Patricia Murphy. She attended West High School in Minneapolis. She acted in the Broadway plays ''You'll See Stars'' (1942), ''What's Up?'' (1943), ''Hats Off to Ice'' (1944), ''The Day Before Spring'' (1945), ''The Pajama Game'' (1954), and ''Mr. Wonderful'' (1956). In 1947, she had a role in the film '' Good News'' that was originally supposed to go to Gloria DeHaven. Due to a disagreement between DeHaven and the film's producer over the script, DeHaven abandoned her role and was suspended, and Marshall was given the role. Larry Gelbart
Larry Simon Gelbart (February 25, 1928 – September 11, 2009) was an American television writer, playwright, screenwriter, director and author, most famous as a creator and producer of the television series ''M*A*S*H'', and as co-writer of the Broadway musicals ''A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'' and '' City of Angels''. Biography Early life Gelbart was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Jewish immigrants Harry Gelbart, "a barber since his half of a childhood in Latvia," and Frieda Sturner, who migrated to America from Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland. Marcia Gelbart Walkenstein was his sister. His family later moved to Los Angeles and he attended Fairfax High School. Drafted into the United States Army shortly after World War II, Gelbart worked for the Armed Forces Radio Service in Los Angeles. The Theatre World Award is an American honor presented annually to actors and actresses in recognition of an outstanding New York City stage debut performance, either on Broadway theatre, Broadway or Off-Broadway. It was first awarded for the 1945–1946 theatre season. History In 1944, the Theatre World Awards were founded by Daniel Blum, Norman McDonald, and John Willis, recognizing "Promising Personalities", actors and actresses, in debut performances, in Broadway or Off-Broadway productions. In the first year Blum presented the awards in his apartment, at a cocktail party, to Betty Comden, Judy Holliday and John Raitt, and the second year to Barbara Bel Geddes, Marlon Brando, and Burt Lancaster.
