Patife Band ("patife" is a word in Portuguese meaning "stooge" or "knucklehead") is a Brazilian post-punk band formed in São Paulo in 1983 by Paulo Barnabé, initially under the name Paulo Patife Band. They are considered to be one of the major exponents of the "Vanguarda Paulistana" movement. Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. These communities produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines. Corredor Polonês
''Corredor Polonês'' (Portuguese for ''Polish Corridor'') is the only studio album by Brazilian post-punk/experimental rock band Patife Band. It was released in 1987 via WEA, and reissued on CD in 2001. The track "Poema em Linha Reta" is a poem written by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa under the pseudonym Álvaro de Campos set to music; both it and "Pregador Maldito" were re-recorded from the soundtrack of the 1986 film ''Cidade Oculta''. "Vida de Operário" is a cover of Brazilian punk band Excomungados; Pato Fu would more famously cover it as well, on their 1995 album '' Gol de Quem?'' "Chapéu Vermelho" is a Portuguese-language adaptation/translation of the song "Li'l Red Riding Hood", written by Ronald Blackwell and originally performed by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. Ratos de Porão (Portuguese for "Basement Rats") is a Brazilian crossover thrash band from São Paulo. They were formed in 1981, toured South America, North America, Asia and Europe, and still continue to play today. Their core lineup of João Gordo on vocals and Jão on drums and later guitars has remained since virtually the band's beginning. ''Patife Band'' is the first official release from the homonymous Brazilian post-punk/experimental rock band Patife Band, released in 1985 by now-defunct independent label Lira Paulistana Records. The song selection includes four original compositions by Patife Band, as well as punk rock-inflected covers of Bobby di Carlo's "Tijolinho" and of the Portuguese-language anonymous adaptation of the traditional Christmas song "Silent Night". "Pregador Maldito" would appear on the soundtrack of the 1986 Brazilian film ''Cidade Oculta'', directed by Chico Botelho and starring Paulo Barnabé's older brother, Arrigo, who also compiled and provided some tracks for the OST. Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. Fear, stylized as FEAR, is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1977. The band is credited for helping to shape the sound and style of Californian hardcore punk.
