Pat Smith (soccer Referee)
Pat Smith (November 10, 1923 – December 7, 2009) was a British-American soccer referee who was one of the founders of the U.S. Soccer national referee program and served as the first president of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association. Officiating career Collegiate. Smith officiated at the collegiate level for 15 years. While there, he officiated hundreds of collegiate games including six NAIA semifinals, numerous NCAA semifinals, and two NCAA men's finals. Professional. When the North American Soccer League was formed in 1967 and Eddie Pearson was brought over from England to train referees, Pat was one of the first people selected to officiate in the league. He refereed the first game in Fenway Park and officiated two "bronze boot" games in St. Louis. In association football, the referee is the person responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Laws of the Game during a match. The referee is the final decision-making authority on all facts connected with play, and is the match official with the authority to start and stop play and impose disciplinary action against players and coaches during a match. At most levels of play the referee is assisted by two assistant referees (formerly known as linesmen), who advise the referee on whether the ball leaves the playing area and any infringements of the Laws of the Game occurring outside of the view of the referee. Brian Hall (referee)
Brian Hall (born June 5, 1961) is an American former soccer referee from northern California. He started his professional career as an assistant referee in the NASL at age 19. Hall was a FIFA referee from 1992 until he retired in 2007 at the mandatory retirement age of 45. He refereed two games in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was also named Major League Soccer Referee of the Year in 2003, 2005 2006, and 2007. Hall served as the US Soccer Manager of Referee Assessment and Training until 2010. He became the first Director of Referees for CONCACAF in December 2010 and held that post until December 2013. United States Adult Soccer Association
The United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) is a national organization for amateur soccer in the United States. It consists of 55 state organizations as well as national, regional and state leagues. The National Premier Soccer League, NISA Nation and United Premier Soccer League are USASA national affiliates designed to promote a higher level of competition than the state organizations. USASA also affiliates the Women's Premier Soccer League, one of the unrecognized third division leagues below the fully professional NWSL. Robert (Bob) Evans (1939 - 2016) was a Welsh-American soccer player, coach, and referee, author, and research geologist who represented the United States Soccer Federation (now " U.S. Soccer") as an international ( FIFA) referee from 1980 to 1988. He also served as U.S. Soccer's National Director of Referee Instruction from 1988 until 1992 and is often credited with being the father of its national referee instruction program.
