Patrice Ann "Pat" Murphy (born March 9, 1955) is an American science writer and author of science fiction and fantasy novels. Early life Murphy was born on March 9, 1955 in Washington state. Career Murphy has used the ideas of the absurdist pseudophilosophy pataphysics in some of her writings. Along with Lisa Goldstein and Michaela Roessner, she has formed The Brazen Hussies to promote their work. Together with Karen Joy Fowler, Murphy co-founded the James Tiptree, Jr. Award in 1991. With her second novel, ''The Falling Woman'' (1986), she won the Nebula Award, and another Nebula Award in the same year for her novelette, "Rachel in Love." Her short story collection, ''Points of Departure'' (1990) won the Philip K. Dick Award, and her 1990 novella, ''Bones'', won the World Fantasy Award in 1991. Patrick Thomas Murphy (born November 28, 1958) is an American baseball coach and manager. He is currently the bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. He previously served as the interim manager of the San Diego Padres and as the head coach for the college baseball teams representing Arizona State University and the University of Notre Dame. Playing career Murphy played baseball at Florida Atlantic University where he played catcher and infield and pitched. He was honored on FAU's 20th Anniversary Team as a pitcher and utility player and in 2008 was inducted into the school's Baseball Hall of Fame. Pat Murphy (born 1951) is an Irish feminist filmmaker and lecturer, the director of Maeve (1982), Anne Devlin (1984) and Nora (2000). Studies Born in Dublin, Murphy graduated from the Ulster College of Art and Design, followed by a BA in fine art at Hornsey College of Art and an MA in film and television from the Royal College of Art in London where she studied under feminist theorist Laura Mulvey. Hoping to train as a cinematographer, in 1977 she was the first European to achieve a scholarship year at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, influencing her decision to become a director. Pat Murphy was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s. He played for South Sydney in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Murphy made his first grade debut for Souths against University in Round 15 1920 at Marrickville Oval. In 1923, Souths reached the grand final against Eastern Suburbs. Murphy played for Souths in the 15-12 defeat which was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In 1924, Souths again reached the grand final against rivals Balmain. Murphy played in the game which Souths lost 3-0. This was the lowest scoring grand final at the time.
