Plants are predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. Passifloraceae
The Passifloraceae are a family of flowering plants, containing about 750 species classified in around 27 genera. They include trees, shrubs, lianas, and climbing plants, and are mostly found in tropical regions. The family takes its name from the passion flower genus (''Passiflora'') which includes the edible passion fruit (''Passiflora edulis''), as well as garden plants such as maypop and running pop. ''Passiflora'' vines and ''Dryas iulia'' (among other heliconian butterflies) have demonstrated evidence of coevolution, in which the plants attempted to stop their destruction from larval feeding by the butterflies, while the butterflies tried to gain better survival for their eggs. Linda Katherine Escobar
Linda Katherine Albert de Escobar (born 14 August 1940, Columbus, died 15 December 1993, La Mesa), was an American botanist, plant collector, and educator noted for her study of ''Passiflora'' as well as her work as a teacher and administrator at the University of Antioquia. She was director of the university's herbarium from 1981 to 1988, and served as President of the ''Herbariums Colombian Association''. The species '' Passiflora linda'' was named in her honor. She identified over forty species, mostly in ''Passiflora''. Education Escobar received her undergraduate degree in biology at University of New Hampshire (B.Sc., 1962), her master's from Purdue University (M.Sc., 1971), and her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin (Ph.D., 1980). ''Passiflora'', known also as the passion flowers or passion vines, is a genus of about 550 species of flowering plants, the type genus of the family Passifloraceae. Endangered Plants
As of September 2016, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists 3654 endangered plant species. 17% of all evaluated plant species are listed as endangered. The IUCN also lists 99 subspecies and 101 varieties as endangered. No subpopulations of plants have been evaluated by the IUCN. For a species to be considered endangered by the IUCN it must meet certain quantitative criteria which are designed to classify taxa facing "a very high risk of exintction". An even higher risk is faced by ''critically endangered'' species, which meet the quantitative criteria for endangered species. Critically endangered plants are listed separately. There are 6147 plant species which are endangered or critically endangered.
