"Partyup" is a song performed by Prince on his 1980 album, ''Dirty Mind''. It was based on a groove that had been created by his friend Morris Day, who would eventually become the lead singer of The Time. Background In a rare February 1981 interview with ''NME'', Prince described the inspiration behind the track: The origins of the track musically can be traced back to a groove that had been created by one of his friends, Morris Day, who had returned to Minneapolis after brief stints living in Maryland and California. The bass guitar riff and drum track had already been completed by Day before Prince overheard the groove. ''Dirty Mind'' is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Prince. It was released on October 8, 1980, by Warner Bros. Records and produced entirely by Prince at his home studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier that year from May to June. ''Dirty Mind'' has been considered by critics to be his most creative and boldest album, setting the standard for his artistic direction in the following years. The Oberheim OB-X was the first of Oberheim's OB-series polyphonic analog subtractive synthesizers. First commercially available in June 1979, the OB-X was introduced to compete with the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, which had been successfully introduced the year before. About 800 units were produced before the OB-X was discontinued and replaced by the updated and streamlined OB-Xa in 1981. Yamaha CP-70
The Yamaha CP-70 is an electric piano manufactured by Yamaha Corporation between 1976 and 1985. The instrument was based on earlier electric piano technology, but took advantage of improved pickups along with the company's longstanding experience in manufacturing acoustic pianos. The new technology and a lack of a soundboard gave it a more accurate emulation of an acoustic piano than earlier models. It was well received and used by a number of musicians in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including the Grateful Dead's Keith Godchaux and Genesis' Tony Banks. It continues to be used in the 21st century by a number of artists, and it is still possible to buy replacement parts. Early life Doumanian was born Jean (or Jeannine) Karabas, the youngest of three children born to Greek Americans, Greek immigrant parents and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Chicago. Her father was a restaurateur. She attended the University of Illinois but dropped out as a junior to marry John Doumanian, a promoter for Capitol Records.
