Party Of One (band)
Party of One is an indie rock trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They released their debut album, ''Caught the Blast'', on May 27, 2003 on FatCat Records. They also released a single, "Shotgun Funeral", prior to this album, as well as another single, "Snap You Like a Twig", on April 20, 2004. The latter single was reviewed favorably by Shoo, a reviewer for Drowned in Sound, who compared it to the music of both Pavement (band), Pavement and Ween. He also praised the single's B-side, "Star Sky Sierra", as being even better than the single itself. The band's members are lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Eric Fifteen (Eric Johnson), Geoff McCusick, and bassist Terrika Kleinknecht. Their music has been described as containing "typically confrontational, at times charmingly naïve messages", and as "punk only by historical association." Caught The Blast
Caught the Blast is the first full-length album by Minnesota-based indie rock band Party of One, released on May 27, 2003, on FatCat Records. Critical reception ''Caught the Blast'' received mostly positive reviews. Robert Christgau, in '' The Village Voice'', wrote that "...like so many lo-fi note-missers of enduring social value, they're winningly enthusiastic about their own negativity." Terry Sawyer of PopMatters said in 2003 that ''Caught the Blast'' was "one of the best records I've heard this year," and after attending a live show where Party of One performed, described Fifteen's stage presence as "petulantly misanthropic." ''Drowned in Sound'', sometimes abbreviated to ''DiS'', is a UK-based music webzine financed by artist management company Silentway. Founded by editor Sean Adams, the site features reviews, news, interviews, and discussion forums. History ''DiS'' began as an email fanzine in 1998 called ''The Last Resort'' but was relaunched by founder and editor Sean Adams as ''Drowned in Sound'' in 2000. Pavement (band)
Pavement is an American indie rock band that formed in Stockton, California, in 1989. For most of their career, the group consisted of Stephen Malkmus (vocals and guitar), Scott Kannberg (guitar and vocals), Mark Ibold (bass), Steve West (drums) and Bob Nastanovich (percussion and vocals). Initially conceived as a recording project, the band at first avoided press or live performances, while attracting considerable underground attention with their early releases. Gradually evolving into a more polished band, Pavement recorded five full-length albums and ten EPs over the course of their decade-long career, though they disbanded with some acrimony in 1999 as the members moved on to other projects. Ween is an American rock band from New Hope, Pennsylvania, formed in 1984 by Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, better known by their respective stage names, Gene and Dean Ween. Generally categorized as an alternative rock band, the band are known for their irreverent, highly eclectic catalog of songs inspired by funk, soul, country, gospel, prog, psychedelia, R&B, heavy metal, and punk rock. Robert Thomas Christgau ( ; born April 18, 1942) is an American music journalist and essayist. Sean Na Na
Sean Na Na is the guitar pop project of Sean Tillmann (who also performs as Har Mar Superstar). The project started as a solo outlet for Tillmann's songs that did not quite fit with his noise band Calvin Krime in 1993. Since then, the project evolved into a full band with a rotating cast of characters from all over the musical map. Tillmann's debut single under the moniker of Sean Na Na was "Two of the Same Name", released in 1998.
