The Party of Socialists and Democrats ( it, Partito dei Socialisti e dei Democratici, PSD) is a social-democratic and democratic socialist political party in San Marino. It is a member of the Socialist International, and observer member of the Party of European Socialists. It is the only Sammarinese party with a reference to the European Union in its official political symbol. Its current-day Italian counterpart is the Democratic Party. The PSD was formed in 2005 by a merger of the Sammarinese Socialist Party (PSS), the oldest political party in the country founded in 1892, and the Party of Democrats (PdD). At the party's formation it had 27 of 60 seats in the Grand and General Council, which was reduced to 20 in the 2006 general election. Matteo Rossi (born 11 July 1975 in Genoa) is an Italian retired footballer. He played as a defender. He played from 1982 for Genoa youth teams. He made his debut in Serie A on 15 April 1995 with Genoa against Cagliari. He played for 67 minutes before being replaced by Kazuyoshi Miura. Arengo and Freedom ( it, Arengo e Libertà, AL) was a liberal and social liberal political party in San Marino. It was founded in September 2008 by two splinters from the Party of Socialists and Democrats, Fabio Berardi and Nadia Ottaviani, both members of the Grand and General Council, who considered the party to be too leftist. Fabio Berardi (born 26 May 1959 in Borgo Maggiore, San Marino) is a Sammarinese politician. He served as a Captain Regent of San Marino from April 2001 until October 2001 and from October 2016 to April 2017. From October 2001 until December 2003, he served as Secretary of State for Planning, Environment and Agriculture. From January 2004 until July 2006 he served as the minister of foreign and political affairs of San Marino until he was succeeded on 27 July by Fiorenzo Stolfi. It was founded as a coalition on 2 August 2006, by the Sammarinese Communist Refoundation, formed by those who did not agree with the transformation of the Sammarinese Communist Party into the Sammarinese Democratic Progressive Party in 1992, and the Left Party, a split from the Party of Democrats in 2005. The New Socialist Party ( it, Nuovo Partito Socialista, NPS) was a social-democratic political party in San Marino. The Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party ( it, Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese, PDCS) is a Christian-democratic political party in San Marino.
