Parr Reservoir
Parr Reservoir or Parr Shoals Reservoir is an impoundment of the Broad River in Pomaria, South Carolina. It is the last dam on the Broad River before the river reaches Columbia, South Carolina, and the Columbia Canal. The lake is mainly used as a holding pond of sorts, as the water is pulled in and out and used to cool the turbines of a nearby nuclear power plant. Some anglers will fish for catfish in the main river channel, while bass fishing is mainly held back to Heller's and Cannon creeks, as well as the tailrace below Lake Monticello. Fairfield County, South Carolina
Fairfield County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 20,948. Its county seat is Winnsboro. Fairfield County is part of the Columbia, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. History 18th century It is alleged that the county name originated from a statement made by General Cornwallis when he declared "How Fair These Fields" during the British occupation of the area in 1780–81. The house Cornwallis stayed in during the occupation is still standing. Several years before the Revolution, Richard Winn from Virginia moved to what is now called Fairfield County. His lands covered the present site of Winnsboro, and as early as 1777 the settlement was known as "Winnsborough". Peak is a town in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 64 at the 2010 census. History Peak was established in the early 1850s to house workers building the Greenville and Columbia Railroad. It was named for railroad superintendent, H.T. Peak. Pomaria, South Carolina
Pomaria is a town in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 179 at the 2010 census. History Pomaria was first settled in the mid 18th century by German, Swiss, and Dutch immigrants escaping the poverty and harsh conditions resulting from the Thirty Years' War. Many of these immigrants brought with them the beliefs and ideals of their Lutheran Religion. The first meeting of the South Carolina Lutheran Synod was in the house of John Eichelberger, who lived in Pomaria. Some of the later presidents of The Synod lived in or preached in and around Pomaria. Pomaria was later affected by the establishment of the Hope School. The Hope School was a Rosenwald School to help rural African-Americans attend school. Columbia Canal
The Columbia Canal is the surviving canal of a series of canals built by the State of South Carolina in 1824 using the labor of indentured Irishmen to provide direct water routes between the upstate settlements and the towns on the Fall Line.
