Inman Township is a township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 352 at the 2000 census. Inman Township was organized in 1878, and named for Thomas Inman, an early settler. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 352 people, 117 households, and 91 families living in the township. The population density was 9.6 people per square mile (3.7/km2). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 3.6/sq mi (1.4/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 97.73% White, 0.85% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.12% of the population. Otter Tail County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, its population was 60,081. Its county seat is Fergus Falls. Otter Tail County comprises the Fergus Falls micropolitan statistical area. With 1,048 lakes in its borders, Otter Tail County has more lakes than any other county in the United States. History Native Americans used the area for hunting and fishing, and had permanent dwelling sites. Two Native American tribes were in constant conflict. The Dakota (Sioux) were being pushed from their home area by the Ojibwa (Chippewa) during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Burial mounds and artifacts can still be found. Some of the oldest Native American remains were found near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. The remains, nicknamed Minnesota Girl, were dated at about 11,000 BC. Northern Pacific Railway
The Northern Pacific Railway was a transcontinental railroad that operated across the northern tier of the western United States, from Minnesota to the Pacific Northwest. It was approved by Congress in 1864 and given nearly of land grants, which it used to raise money in Europe for construction. Construction began in 1870 and the main line opened all the way from the Great Lakes to the Pacific when former President Ulysses S. Grant drove in the final "golden spike" in western Montana on September 8, 1883. The railroad had about of track and served a large area, including extensive trackage in the states of Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin.
