Parisina (Mascagni)
''Parisina'' is a ''tragedia lirica'', or opera, in four acts by Pietro Mascagni. Gabriele D'Annunzio wrote the Italian libretto after Byron's poem ''Parisina'' of 1816. It was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan on 15 December 1913. Mascagni's career Mascagni (b. Livorno, 7 Dec 1863; d. Rome, 2 Aug 1945) achieved success early on in his compositional life with one of his most famous operas, ''Cavalleria Rusticana''. With this opera he overcame at least 70 rival composers to win the Sonzogno competition in 1888. The ensuing fame encouraged a prolific career remembered for the vibrant melodies first heard in ''Cavalleria''. Indeed, Mascagni was also well known abroad. In England he conducted his own operas in the Royal Opera House's 1892 Italian season n London. He also embarked on a tour of North America in 1902 returning the following year. Hipólito Lázaro
Hipòlit Lázaro (September 13, 1887 – May 14, 1974), better known as Hipólito Lázaro, was a Catalan people, Catalan-Spanish opera singer. He was active as an operatic tenor for four decades from 1910 through 1950. Biography Lázaro was born in Barcelona, Spain on September 13, 1887. He made his professional debut in 1910 at Teatre Novedades in Barcelona in ''La favorite''. His Italian debut occurred in late 1910 in ''Rigoletto'' at the Teatro Tosi-Borghi in Ferrara. During the summer of 1911, he appeared under the pseudonym Antonio Manuele in a series of concerts held in England. Lázaro built his career primarily on verismo roles, Verdi operas. Carlo Galeffi (4 June 1884 – 22 September 1961) was a leading Italian baritone, particularly associated with the operatic works of Giuseppe Verdi and the various verismo composers. Life and career Galeffi was born in Malamocco, the only settlement on the Lido of Venice.
