Parides Cutorina
''Parides cutorina '' is a species of butterfly in the family Papilionidae. It is found in the Neotropical realm (Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil: Pará and Amazonas). It is an uncommon local species which may be threatened. The larvae feed on ''Aristolochia''. Description from Seitz P. cutorina Stgr. (female = ''mazeppa'' Grose-Smith) (3 c). Palpi red. Forewing of the male with a green spot; in the female without spot, the fringes spotted with white. Hindwing in the male with two contiguous red spots on the upper surface, the spots on the under surface yellowish white; in the female the wing has a yellowish white band on both surfaces; 2. and 3. radials close together, the transverse vein between them not oblique. — Upper Amazon and slopes of the Andes of Ecuador and Peru. Otto Staudinger
Otto Staudinger (2 May 1830 – 13 October 1900) was a German entomologist and a natural history dealer considered one of the largest in the world specialising in the collection and sale of insects to museums, scientific institutions, and individuals. Life Staudinger was born in Groß Wüstenfelde, Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, from a Bavarian family on his father's side. His grandfather was born near Ansbach and came to Holstein at the end of the 18th century where Staudinger's father was born in Groß Flottbeck in 1799. His mother, a born Schroeder, was from Mecklenburg, born in Putzar at the Count of Schwerin's estate in 1794. At the time of Otto Staudinger's birth in 1830 his father was the tenant of the Rittergut Groß Wüstenfelde. At the age of six or seven Otto was introduced into entomology by his private tutor Wagner who collected beetles. ''Parides erithalion'', the variable cattleheart, is a North and South American butterfly in the family Papilionidae. Description The upperside of the wings is black with a row of red postmedian spots. The underside of the wings is also black with a row of pink and whitish spots. Butterflies are insects in the macrolepidopteran clade Rhopalocera from the order Lepidoptera, which also includes moths. Adult butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight.
