Parent–child Interaction Therapy
Parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) is an intervention developed by Sheila Eyberg (1988) to treat children between ages 2 and 7 with disruptive behavior problems. PCIT is an evidence-based treatment (EBT) for young children with behavioral and emotional disorders that places emphasis on improving the quality of the parent-child relationship and changing parent-child interaction patterns. Disruptive behavior is the most common reason for referral of young children for mental health services and can vary from relatively minor infractions such as talking back to significant acts of aggression. The most commonly treated Disruptive Behavior Disorders may be classified as Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) or Conduct Disorder (CD), depending on the severity of the behavior and the nature of the presenting problems. Sheila Eyberg
Sheila Eyberg is a professor at the University of Florida where she is a part of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. Eyberg was born in 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska to Clarence George and Geraldine Elizabeth Eyberg. She is recognized for developing parent–child interaction therapy. She is the President and CEO of the PCIT International. Eyberg received numerous awards including the 2009 Trailblazer Award from the Child and Family Special Interest Group of the Association for Cognitive and BehavioralTherapies, 2008 Nicholas Hobbs Award from the Society for Children and Family Policy and Practice, 2008 Distinguished Career Award from the Society of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology, 2007 Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training Award from the American Psychological Association, and 2006 Atlantic Coast Social Behavioral and Economic Sciences Alliance Research Award from the University of Florida. Major Depressive Disorder
Major depressive disorder (MDD), also known as clinical depression, is a mental disorder characterized by at least two weeks of pervasive low mood, low self-esteem, and loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. Oppositional Defiant Disorder
