Alain Paquet
Alain Paquet (born April 17, 1961) is a Quebec politician, professor and economist. He was a Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Laval-des-Rapides and served as the province's Delegate Minister of Finance, from February 3, 2011, until his defeat in the 2012 Québec General Elections, to Leo Bureau-Blouin of the Parti Québécois. Paquet represented the Quebec Liberal Party. Paquet went to the Université Laval and obtained a bachelor's degree in economics. He would then attend the University of Rochester and obtained a master's and a doctorate in economics and would add another master's degree at Queen's University. Anselme-Homère Pâquet
Anselme-Homère Pâquet (29 September 1830 – 22 December 1891) was a Canadian physician, professor and parliamentarian. He served three terms as a Liberal Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada representing the Quebec riding of Berthier. He was born Michel-Anselme Pâquet in Saint-Cuthbert, Lower Canada in 1830. He studied at the Montreal School of Medicine and Surgery, qualified as a physician in 1853 and opened a practice in Saint-Cuthbert. By 1854, he had adopted the name Anselme-Homère. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in 1863 for Berthier and served until Confederation. He opposed confederation. He was elected in the Canadian federal election of 1867, and was re-elected in 1872 and 1874. He resigned his seat in the House of Commons to accept an appointment to the Senate of Canada on 9 February 1875 on the recommendation of Alexander Mackenzie. Benjamin Pâquet
Benjamin Pâquet (or Paquet, pronounced ; March 27, 1832 – February 25, 1900) was a French-Canadian Roman Catholic priest and educator. He was an influential and controversial figure in 19th century Quebec religious politics, making numerous enemies amongst the French-Canadian ultra-montane elite of the period. Three times his name was cited for potential bishopry, but each time his opponents successfully lobbied against his nomination or the decision makers settled on a less controversial choice. Eugène Paquet, (23 October 1867 – 8 May 1951) was a Canadian parliamentarian. Paquet was born in St-Agapit, Quebec, and prior to entering politics studied medicine and practised as a physician. A Conservative, he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada as Member of Parliament for the Quebec electoral district of L'Islet in the Canadian federal election of 1904, a seat he was to successfully defend in 1908 and 1911. However, he was defeated in the elections of 1921 and 1926. In recognition of his service to the party, he was appointed to the Canadian Senate on 14 August 1935 on the recommendation of Richard Bennett. François-Xavier Wurth-Paquet (16 April 1801 – 4 February 1885) was a Luxembourgian politician, jurist, and archaeologist. Born in Luxembourg City, he studied law in Liège and then became a lawyer, judge, prosecutor and in 1848 president of the Superior Court. From 1845 to 1848 he was a member of the Assembly of Estates. He was elected to represent the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette on the Constituent Assembly, in 1848. Gilles Paquet, (July 19, 1936 – January 18, 2019) was a Canadian economist, President of the Royal Society of Canada from 2003 to 2005. He was professor emeritus at the School of Management and senior research fellow at the Centre on Governance of the University of Ottawa until his death at age 82. Early life He was professor of economics, and dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at Carleton University. Jean-Guy Paquet, (born January 5, 1938) is a Canadian scientist, businessman, and former rector of Université Laval. Born in Montmagny, Quebec, he received a Doctor of Electrical Engineering from Université Laval in 1963. From 1967 to 1969, he was the head of the electrical engineering department at Université Laval. From 1969 to 1972, he was a vice-rector of Université Laval and he was rector from 1977 to 1987. He was the youngest-ever president of a Canadian university and the second engineer to become rector at Laval. Louis-Honoré Pâquet (or Paquet, ; 23 October 1838 – 19 September 1915) was a French-Canadian Roman Catholic priest and university teacher, as well as celebrated orator of his time. Biography Pâquet was born in 1838 in Saint-Nicolas, near Lévis, in what was then Lotbinière County, on the southern shore of the Saint Lawrence River opposite Québec City. The son of farmers Étienne Pâquet and Ursule Lambert, he was descended from an old, pious family of the area, and was closely related to theologian Louis-Adolphe Pâquet as well as to provincial MLA Étienne-Théodore Pâquet (both nephews). His studies, like those of his older brother Benjamin, were financed by their uncle (also named Benjamin), a wealthy merchant. Philippe Paquet is a former champion jockey from France, who in 1974 was the winner of the Prix du Jockey Club on Caracolero, and the Gran Premio d'Italia on Ribecourt. In 1976, he also won the Irish Derby on Malacate, and the Irish Oaks on Lagunette. In 1979 and 1980, he won back to back on Boiteon in Prix Maurice de Gheest. In 1981, he won his final Group one on April Run in Prix Vermeille before finishing a close third in the Arc. He was the stable jockey of famous French trainer François Boutin for nine years. He joined Boutin straight from school as a 14yr-old apprentice in 1966, via the local employment exchange.
