The New York Entomological Society and other entomological societies in New York have produced a number of scientific journals since the mid-19th century, some of which have moved between a set of similar societies. ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society'' The ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society'' was an academic journal which focused on entomology. It was published by the Brooklyn Entomological Society. In 1885, it was suspended after volume 7, and was merged with ''Papilio'' to form '' Entomologica Americana''. The journal was later resumed in 1912, as ''Bulletin of the Brooklyn Entomological Society (new series)'', starting at Volume 8. It then ceased publication with the double volume 59-60 in June 1966, shortly before the Brooklyn Entomological Society merged with the New York Entomological Society. The New York Entomological Society was founded in 1892. The Brooklyn Entomological Society merged with the Society in 1968. The Society publishes '' Entomologica Americana'' which is the successor to the ''Journal of the New York Entomological Society''. A related society, the New York Entomological Club, briefly existed between 1880 and 1882. Genus
Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. Papilio
''Papilio'' is a genus in the swallowtail butterfly family, Papilionidae, as well as the only representative of the tribe Papilionini. The word ''papilio'' is Latin for butterfly. It includes the common yellow swallowtail (''Papilio machaon''), which is widespread in the Northern Hemisphere and the type species of the genus, as well as a number of other well-known North American species such as the western tiger swallowtail ('' Papilio rutulus''). Henry Edwards (entomologist)
Henry Edwards (27 August 1827 – 9 June 1891), known as "Harry", was an English stage actor, writer and entomologist who gained fame in Australia, San Francisco and New York City for his theatre work. Edwards was drawn to the theatre early in life, and he appeared in amateur productions in London. After sailing to Australia, Edwards appeared professionally in Shakespearean plays and light comedies primarily in Melbourne and Sydney. Throughout his childhood in England and his acting career in Australia, he was greatly interested in collecting insects, and the National Museum of Victoria used the results of his Australian fieldwork as part of the genesis of their collection.
