Papa CJ
Chirag Jain, better known by his stage name Papa CJ is a stand-up comedian from India. In November 2014 he won the 'Asia's Best Stand-up Comedian' award by ''Top 10'' Magazine in Kuala Lumpur. He has toured sell-out shows across five continents and in October 2011 he taped a Showtime USA Stand-up Comedy Special with Russell Peters in Amsterdam. Early life and career Papa CJ did his schooling at the Lawrence School Sanawar in India where he was the head boy and then went on to do an MBA at the University of Oxford from the Said Business School. He then worked as a management consultant in London. He has also worked as an executive coach and motivational speaker and has trained executives from over 50 blue chip companies all over the world. Comedy career After visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004, he gave up his corporate career and started performing stand-up comedy in November of that year. Russell Peters
Russell Dominic Peters (born September 29, 1970) is a Canadian stand-up comedian, actor, and producer. He began performing in Toronto in 1989 and won a Gemini Award in 2008. In 2013, he was number three on ''Forbes'' list of the world's highest-paid comedians, and became the first comedian to get a Netflix stand-up special. He also won the Peabody Award and the International Emmy Award for Best Arts Programming for producing ''Hip-Hop Evolution'' (2016). He lives in Los Angeles. Lawrence School Sanawar
The Lawrence School, Sanawar, is the oldest Co-Ed boarding school in the world near Solan city. Established in 1847, its history, influence, and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious and oldest schools in Asia. The 6th season of ''Last Comic Standing'' began airing in May 2008. This competitive reality show on NBC was hosted by Bill Bellamy (continuing from season five) and a new co-host, Fearne Cotton. The contest was won by Iliza Shlesinger from Dallas, Texas. Auditions Auditions were held in the following cities in early 2008, with the listed comics advancing to the semi-finals: Behind the scenes Mark Breslin, owner of Yuk Yuk's comedy clubs, which hosted the Toronto audition for season 6, described the audition process. He explained that while anyone who wanted to could wait in line to audition, most would be dismissed after only one joke. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the second-largest international comedy festival in the world. Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. The Melbourne Town Hall has served as the festival hub, but performances are held in many venues throughout the city. The MICF plays host to hundreds of local and international artists; in 2018 the festival listed over 550 shows, 6,700 performances (including more than 160 free performances) by 3,500 artists. Carolines On Broadway
Carolines on Broadway is a venue for stand-up comedy situated at 750 Seventh Avenue, on Broadway between 49th and 50th Streets, in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. History Caroline Hirsch opened Carolines as a cabaret in the Chelsea neighborhood in 1981 with two friends. Hirsch advocated to make it a comedy club and booked Jay Leno as its first performer. In 1983, Paul Reubens performed at the club, helping the club grow in popularity. In 1987, Carolines moved to South Street Seaport where it became established as the country's top comedy venue. It also served as home to the A&E series, “Caroline's Comedy Hour,” which ran for six years and won a CableACE award for "Best Stand-Up Comedy Series."
