Panorama Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Panora, Iowa. It operates an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school in Panora. The district is mostly in Guthrie County but has portions in Dallas and Greene counties. The district serves, in addition to Panora, the towns of Bagley, Jamaica, Linden, Yale, and Lake Panorama. The district formed on July 1, 1989, as a merger of the Panora-Linden and Y-J-B school districts. Panora is a city in Guthrie County, Iowa. The population was 1,091 at the time of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. It is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area. History Panora was platted in 1851. 2014 Mother's Day tornado Just before 10 p.m. on May 11, 2014, an EF2 tornado caused tens of millions of dollars in damages to areas outside of Panora and especially nearby Lake Panorama including several farms north of Panora and northeast of Yale. The tornado originated south of Guthrie Center near the intersection of Highway 25 and the Monteith Road. It travelled in a northeasterly direction for 16.7 miles through Lake Panorama on a path through mostly unplanted fields passing both to the south and to the east of Yale and to the south of Jamaica ending southwest of Dawson, sparing those three towns. Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) is the governing body for girls' junior and senior high school sports in the U.S. state of Iowa. The association promotes and regulates interscholastic sports among its member schools. Though its counterpart for boys sports in Iowa, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, is a full-time member of the National Federation of State High School Associations, the IGHSAU is only an affiliate member. ''The Des Moines Register'' is the daily morning newspaper of Des Moines, Iowa. History Early period The first newspaper in Des Moines was the ''Iowa Star''. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. In 1854, ''The Star'' became the ''Iowa Statesman'' which was also a Democratic paper. In 1857, ''The Statesman'' became the ''Iowa State Journal'', which published 3 times per week. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. KDLS (1310 AM) is a commercial radio station serving the Perry, Iowa area. Until February 2010, the station broadcast Timeless Favorites. After the shutdown of Timeless Favorites at that same month, the station has broadcast primarily a Kool Gold format. Although both stations share the same call letters, KDLS AM does not have the same ownership as KDLS-FM. Until January 31, 2012, KDLS was licensed to Coon Valley Communications, Inc.
