Pankrti
Pankrti (The ''Bastards'' in Slovene) are a punk rock band from Ljubljana, Slovenia, active in the late 1970s and 1980s. They were known for provocative and political songs. They billed themselves as ''The First Punk Band Behind The Iron Curtain'' (one of their songs was titled, ''Behind the iron curtain old broads pull red beet''). They are one of the most important former Yugoslav punk groups and one of the first punk rock bands ever formed in a communist country. Biography Gregor Tomc and Peter Lovšin, two young men from the Ljubljana suburb of Kodeljevo, came up with the idea of forming a band in 1977. Punk Rock In Yugoslavia
Punk rock in Yugoslavia was the punk subculture of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The most developed scenes across the federation existed in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia, the Adriatic coast of the Socialist Republic of Croatia, the Socialist Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and Belgrade, the capital of both Yugoslavia and the Socialist Republic of Serbia. Some notable acts included: Pankrti, Paraf, Pekinška patka, KUD Idijoti, Niet, Patareni and KBO!. History Although a communist country, the non-aligned SFR Yugoslavia was not part of the Eastern Bloc and it was open to western influences. Bandiera Rossa
''Bandiera Rossa'' (Italian for "Red Flag"), often also called ''Avanti Popolo'' after its opening words (also to avoid any confusion with '' The three flags'', another socialist song) is one of the most famous songs of the Italian labour movement. It glorifies the red flag, symbol of the socialist and communist movements. The text was written by Carlo Tuzzi in 1908; the melody is taken from two Lombard folk songs. Versions Apart from the first Italian text, there are several variants which are identified with certain socialist or communist parties. The last two lines "''Evviva il comunismo e la libertà''" were put in the text after the rise of Benito Mussolini; at the same time the original beginning "''Compagni avanti alla riscossa''" was changed to "''Avanti o popolo, alla riscossa''". ''Novi Punk Val'' (meaning ''New Punk Wave'') is a compilation album of punk rock and new wave music from the SFR Yugoslavia. It covers the period from 1978 till 1980. It was released by ZKP RTLJ in 1981. It includes songs by notable Slovenian and Croatian artists from the former Yugoslav punk rock and new wave scenes including: Pankrti, Paraf, Prljavo kazalište, Termiti and others. Along with '' Paket aranžman'' and '' Artistička radna akcija'' compilations which featured artists from Belgrade, Serbia it is considered a symbol of the former Yugoslav punk and new wave era. Peter Lovšin
Peter "Pero" Lovšin (born June 27, 1955) is a Slovenian musician, songwriter and singer, best known as a frontman of the first Yugoslav punk rock group ''Pankrti''. After a period with Pankrti in the 1980s, he formed a successful rock band '' Sokoli'' and later continued with a great solo career. He is best known for working with rock music, but also with reggae in the later stages of his 30-year career. He supported the Sex Pistols on their 1996 tour and is now playing with Ivan Kral (Patti Smith, U2). In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he organized several tours with folk rock musicians Vlado Kreslin and Zoran Predin. Among others, they composed the anthem of the Slovenia national football team for the 2000 European Football Championship. SIM Studio (also known as Studio Smolec) is a Croatian recording studio owned by Vladimir Smolec and Tomo in der Mühlen founded in the 1980s in Zagreb. Gregor Tomc
Gregor Tomc also known as Grega Tomc (born 3 February 1952) is a Slovenian sociologist, musician and activist. In the late 1970s and 1980s, he was the founder and member of the Slovenian punk rock band ''Pankrti''. Biography Tomc was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He is the younger half-brother of the columnist and historian Alenka Puhar. Their mother Helena Puhar was a renowned pedagogue and a partisan veteran from Kranj, who was a grandnephew of the photographer Janez Puhar, inventor of a process for photography on glass. Tomc spent his high school years in New York City, where he became a fan of Bob Dylan and developed an interest in rock'n'roll music. He studied sociology at the University of Ljubljana.
