Panitya, Victoria
Panitya is a locality situated in the Sunraysia region. The place by road, is situated about 23 kilometres east from Pinnaroo and 10 kilometres west from Carina on the Mallee Highway. Panitya is a railway station on the Ouyen to Pinnaroo line. The Post Office opened in 1910 and was closed in 1975. The area of the locality contains a number of smaller areas, namely Panitya East which had a post office open from 1916 until 1933, Berrook which had a post office open from 1929 until 1935, Manya with a post office from 1928 until 1936, Sunset Sunset, also known as sundown, is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon due to Earth's rotation. Sunraysia
Sunraysia is an illdefined district, sometimes incorrectly referred to as an economic region, located in northwestern Victoria and southwestern New South Wales in Australia. The region is renowned for its sunshine, intensive horticulture including grapes and oranges, and grain farms. Its main centre is Mildura, Victoria. Etymology The name ''Sunraysia'' derives from a contest that entrepreneur Jack De Garis held in 1919, as part of a promotion on behalf of the Australian Dried Fruits Association. The public were invited to submit a name to describe the dried fruits grown in the Mildura area. The winning name was ''Sun-Raysed'', which was modified as ''Sunraysia'' to describe the district as a whole. In 1920, De Garis started a newspaper in Mildura called the ''Sunraysia Daily'', helping to establish the name. Pinnaroo Railway Line, Victoria
The Pinnaroo Line serviced the agricultural districts of the Mallee in the Australian states of South Australia and Victoria for the freight of grain, although there were periods of passenger travel on the line in previous years (the last passenger service between Ouyen in Victoria and Pinnaroo in South Australia being in 1968). The railway line was the means to open up the agricultural lands with the supply of goods and services from rural centres sustaining the remote area. It was completed from Ouyen to Murrayville in 1912 and extended to Pinnaroo in 1915.
