Pandiyan (actor)
Pandiyan (5 January 1959 – 10 January 2008) was an Indian actor and politician who acted in lead roles in about 75 Tamil films from 1983 to 1992 and supporting roles from 1993 to 2001. Career Pandiyan was selling bangles in his family owned jewellery shop in Madurai, India when he was spotted by director Bharathiraja who offered him the lead role in the film ''Mann Vasanai'' (1983) which became a box-office hit. Following the success, Pandiyan was cast in over 75 films. Pandiyan joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 2001. ''Oorkavalan'' () is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed by Manobala, starring Rajinikanth and Raadhika. The film did average business in box-office. Plot The story describes the struggle of a young villager Kangeyan to receive justice for his brother's murder. Manickam falls in love with Mallika, the daughter of Pannaiar. Mallika's marriage is arranged with Dorai, but she refuses and declares her love for Mannikam. Kangeyan gets them married in the village. The priest pretends to have divine powers and uses the superstitious beliefs of the villagers to kill Manickam. Kangeyan, not wanting to see Mallika as a widow, decides to get her married again to Pandian, a cart driver who was her childhood friend. ''Cooliekkaran'' () is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Rajasekhar and produced by S. Thanu. The film stars Vijayakanth and Rupini, in her Tamil cinema debut. It is a remake of the Hindi film ''Kaalia'' (1981). The film was released on 6 June 1987. Through this film Vijayakanth got the title "Puratchi Kalaignar" (), bestowed upon him by Thanu.
