Pandey, Pande, or Panday (Hindi: पाण्डेय/पाण्डे/पाँडे/पाण्डेय) ( Nepali: पाण्डे/पाँडे/पाण्डेय) is a surname found among the communities of Brahmins in India and both Bahun and Chhetri communities of Nepal. Pande dynasty of Nepal were the Chhetri aristocratic family who dominated the Nepalese administration and military up until the 19th century as Mulkaji and Mukhtiyar, both equivalent to Prime minister. Deshpande and other variations of this surname, ending in "-pande", are found in the Deccan region of India. Suyash Panday (born 26 September 1962), better known by his stage name Chunky Panday, is an Indian actor who works in Bollywood films. He has appeared in over 100 films in a career that has spanned over three decades. His most successful films in Hindi were in the period 1987-1994. Ganesh Pandey or Ganesa Pande (Nepali:गणेश पाण्डे वा गणेश पाँडे) (born circa 1529-1606) was Minister and Accomplice of King Dravya Shah of Gorkha. He helped Dravya Shah to become King of Gorkha and was later appointed Minister (Bhardar) of Gorkha Rajya. He is the founder of the aristocratic Pande family. Vamshidhar Pande ( ne, वंशीधर पाँडे) known by Alias Kalu Pande ( ne, कालु पाँडे) was a Nepalese politician and military general who was appointed as Kaji of The Gorkha Kingdom. ''Kaji'' ( ne, काजी) was a title and position used by nobility of Gorkha Kingdom (1559–1768) and Kingdom of Nepal between 1768 and 1846. Many other contemporary kingdoms used the same title for their ministers. Etymology Historian Mahesh Chandra Regmi suggests that ''Kaji'' is derived from Sanskrit word ''Karyi'' which meant functionary.
