Pan De Guajaibón
Pan de Guajaibón is a mountain in the Guaniguanico range of western Cuba. It has two peaks, the highest of which is 699 metres above sea level. It is the highest mountain in the Guaniguanico range. A bust of Antonio Maceo Grajales is situated at the top of the mountain. There are also cave systems at the mountain which contain archeological artifacts. Guaniguanico
Guaniguanico, also known as Cordillera de Guaniguanico, is a mountain range of western Cuba that spans from the centre-west of Pinar del Río Province to the western area of Artemisa Province. It is formed by the subranges of Sierra del Rosario and Sierra de los Órganos. Etymology Granberry and Vescelius (2004) suggest a Guanahatabey language, Guanahatabey etymology for the name ''Guaniguanico'', comparing it with ''wani-wani-ku'' 'hidden moon, moon-set' in the purportedly related Warao language of the Orinoco Delta. Geography The ''cordillera'' spans for a length of circa 160 km, from the town Guane, in the west of Pinar del Río Province, to the Alturas de Mariel, near Mariel, Cuba, Mariel, Artemisa Province. Antonio Maceo Grajales
Lt. General José Antonio de la Caridad Maceo y Grajales (June 14, 1845December 7, 1896) was second-in-command of the Cuban Army of Independence. Fellow Cubans gave Maceo the nickname “The Bronze Titan" ( es, El Titán de Bronce, links=no), nickname that he earned after being wounded several times in battle. Spaniards referred to Maceo as the "Greater Lion" (''El León mayor''). Maceo was one of the most noteworthy guerrilla leaders in 19th century Latin America, comparable to José Antonio Páez of Venezuela in military acumen. Early years Maceo was the son of a Venezuelan farmer and dealer in agricultural products, , and a mulatto Cuban woman of Dominican descent, Mariana Grajales y Cuello. His father when still a young man, fought for the Spanish against the forces for independence led by Simón Bolívar, José Antonio Páez and others.
