Pampa Independent School District is a public school district based in Pampa, Texas (USA). Located in Gray County, the district extends into portions of Roberts County. The school district has 3,446 students for 2010-2011 school year according to the district profile on the Texas Education Agency. In 2011, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. However, for the 2011 school year, Pampa High School and Pampa Junior High School were both rated academically unacceptable. Landmark Lawsuit In a landmark legal case filed in 2009, Terrell v. Pampa (from the Quechua: ''pampa'', meaning "plain") is a city in Gray County, Texas, United States. Its population was 16,867 as of the 2020 census. Pampa is the county seat of Gray County and is the principal city of the Pampa micropolitan statistical area, which includes both Gray and Roberts Counties. Pampa is named after the Pampas Lowlands in Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Gray County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 21,227. The county seat is Pampa. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1902. is named for Peter W. Gray, a Confederate lawyer and soldier in the American Civil War. Gray County comprises the Pampa, TX micropolitan statistical area. Gray County was the center of the White Deer Lands Management Company, which ceased operations in 1957. Roberts County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 827, making it the seventh-least populous county in Texas. James Randel "Randy" Matson (born March 5, 1945) is an American track and field athlete who mostly competed in the shot put. Matson won a silver medal at the 1964 and a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. Early years The son of Charles and Ellen Matson, Randy Matson was reared in Pampa, Texas, Pampa, the seat of Gray County, Texas, Gray County in the Texas Panhandle. At the age of twelve, he participated in his first track meet. He won the 50-yard dash, the 100-yard dash, the long jump and the high jump and finished sixth in the shot put. He attended Pampa High School, where he was a three-sport standout in American football, basketball, and track and field.
