Pamela Frydman
Pamela Frydman is an American rabbi. She is the founding rabbi of Or Shalom Jewish Community, a San Francisco Jewish Renewal congregation. Career In 2002, Rabbi Frydman became the first female president of OHALAH (Association of Rabbis for Jewish Renewal). In 2010, she organized a letter signed by more than 400 rabbis, asking Jerusalem police to protect women at the Western Wall who want to pray and read the Torah together, one year after Nofrat Frenkel was arrested for taking out a Torah in the women's section of the Western Wall Plaza. Frydman is one of the international co-chairs for Rabbis for Women of the Wall. She is also the director of the Holocaust Education Project at the Academy for Jewish Religion in California. Jewish Renewal () is a recent movement in Judaism which endeavors to reinvigorate modern Judaism with Kabbalistic, Hasidic, and musical practices. Specifically, it seeks to reintroduce the "ancient Judaic traditions of mysticism and meditation, gender equality and ecstatic prayer" to synagogue services. It is distinct from the baal teshuva movement of return to Orthodox Judaism. Torah
The Torah (; hbo, ''Tōrā'', "Instruction", "Teaching" or "Law") is the compilation of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, namely the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Western Wall Plaza
The Western Wall Plaza is a large public square situated adjacent to the Western Wall in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It was formed in 1967 as a result of the razing of the Moroccan Quarter neighborhood at the very end of the Six-Day War. Location The Western Wall Plaza abuts the Western Wall, part of the ancient retaining wall erected by Herod the Great to surround and increase the surface area of the Temple Mount. Women Of The Wall
Women of the Wall (Hebrew language, Hebrew: נשות הכותל, ''Neshot HaKotel'') is a multi-denominational Jews, Jewish feminist organization based in Israel whose goal is to secure the rights of women to pray at the Western Wall, also called the Kotel, in a fashion that includes singing, reading aloud from the Torah and wearing religious garments (''tallit'', ''tefillin'' and ''kippah'').
