Palomino Rabbit
The Palomino rabbit is a breed of rabbit, normally in weight, which is generally colored golden or lynx. It was first bred in the United States. As with the palomino horse, the rabbit gets its name from its color. History The Palomino rabbit was created by Mark Youngs at Lone Pine Rabbitry in Coulee Dam, Washington. It was based on Youngs' previous American Beige breed. The breed was initially named ''Washingtonian'' in 1952 at the American Rabbit Breeders Association's national convention. The name ''Palomino'' was adopted in 1953, and the breed was recognized in 1957. The breed became more common in the 1960s. Description Palomino rabbits have a fawny brown color with brown eyes and their bodies are larger than most other breeds. A breed is a specific group of domestic animals having homogeneous appearance (phenotype), homogeneous behavior, and/or other characteristics that distinguish it from other organisms of the same species. Palomino
Palomino is a genetic color in horses, consisting of a gold coat and white mane and tail; the degree of whiteness can vary from bright white to yellow. Genetically, the palomino color is created by a single allele of a dilution gene called the cream gene working on a "red" (chestnut) base coat. Palomino is created by a genetic mechanism of incomplete dominance, hence it is not considered true-breeding. However, most color breed registries that record palomino horses were founded before equine coat color genetics were understood as well as they are today, therefore the standard definition of a palomino is based on the visible coat color, not heritability nor the underlying presence of the dilution gene. Coulee Dam, Washington
Coulee Dam is a town in Douglas, Grant, and Okanogan counties in the State of Washington. The Douglas County portion of Coulee Dam is part of the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,211 as of the 2020 census. History Coulee Dam was founded by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1933, to serve as headquarters for the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. The Okanogan County portion was known as Mason City, location of the head contractor. The Portions in Douglas and Grant Counties were known as Engineers Town and were government owned. The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) is a national club for domestic rabbit and cavy breeders. The ARBA is headquartered in Knox, Pennsylvania in the United States.
