Born in Laroche-près-Feyt, department of Corrèze, he studied in Angoulême and at the seminary in Église Saint-Sulpice, Paris, where in 1830 he was ordained into the priesthood.
Universal cyclopædia and atlas, Volume 8 In the 1830s, he first was introduced to the idea that a person's character could be ascertained via their handwriting from Abbé Flandrin (1804–1864), a priest who taught classes in philosophy. In 1842, he resigned his position as a priest, though still remaining a preacher. He focused his energy towards scientific pursuits, in particular historical and archaeological research, publishing a number of works on the religious history of

Werner Greuter
Werner Rodolfo Greuter, (born February 27, 1938) in Genoa, Italy, as a Swiss national, is a botanist. He is the chair of the Editorial Committee for the '' International Code of Botanical Nomenclature'' (''ICBN'') - the ''Tokyo Code'' (1994) and the ''St Louis Code'' (2000). His proposed policy as regards registration of botanical names proved unpopular and in 1999 he stepped back, not being elected anew: he completed his term as chair to be succeeded at Vienna in 2005. He has returned as a member of the editorial committee, contributing to the renamed International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, the "Melbourne Code" (2012). Biography Greuter went to schools in Bellinzona and Winterthur, and received his PhD from the University of Zürich in 1972. From 1972 to 1974 he was scientific director of the Goulandris Museum of Natural History in Kifisia, Athens, and edited its journal, ''Annales Musei Goulandris'' till 1976, being succeeded by W. T. Common Name
In biology, a common name of a taxon or organism (also known as a vernacular name, English name, colloquial name, country name, popular name, or farmer's name) is a name that is based on the normal language of everyday life; and is often contrasted with the scientific name for the same organism, which is Latinized. A common name is sometimes frequently used, but that is not always the case. In chemistry, IUPAC defines a common name as one that, although it unambiguously defines a chemical, does not follow the current systematic naming convention, such as acetone, systematically 2-propanone, while a vernacular name describes one used in a lab, trade or industry that does not unambiguously describe a single chemical, such as copper sulfate, which may refer to either copper(I) sulfate or copper(II) sulfate. Sometimes common names are created by authorities on one particular subject, in an attempt to make it possible for members of the general public (including such interested par ...

Pallenis
''Pallenis'' is a small genus of flowering plants in the tribe Inuleae within the family Asteraceae. The name is derived from ''palea'' (chaff), referring to the chaffy receptacle. This is primarily a Mediterranean genus, occurring in desert and coastal habitats of Southern Europe, North Africa, the Canary Islands and the Middle East. The range of one species extends eastward into Central Asia. The genus consists of annual or biennial herbaceous plants with white, sub-silky hairs on the soft stems, growing to a height of 20–50 cm. They grow on uncultivated or disturbed land and roadsides. They are hardy, surviving in dry to very dry environments or cold spells. The small, alternate, entire leaves are elliptic to obovate. They have short petioles at the base of the stem but are sessile in the upper half. The solitary inflorescence grows at the top of the branches. The large, slightly convex receptacle shows numerous, yellowish orange, hermaphrodite disc florets and tw ...

Anastatica Hierochuntica
''Anastatica'' is a monotypic genus of plants in the family '' Brassicaceae'' containing the single species ''Anastatica hierochuntica''. The plant is a small gray annual herb that rarely grows above high, and bears minute white flowers. It is a tumbleweed page 359 pages 36-37 pages 204-205 capable of hygroscopic expansion and retraction. However, it is not a true resurrection plant, because the plant's dead tissues do not revive and turn green. This species is not to be confused with ''Selaginella lepidophylla'', also sometimes referred to as "rose of Jericho", or "false rose of Jericho", which is a true resurrection plant that can revive from a dried state and regain the processes of respiration and photosynthesis. Names Common names include Maryam's flower, flower of St Mary, St. Mary's flower, Mary's flower, white mustard flower , and rose of Jericho. Range ''Anastatica'' is found in arid areas in the Middle East and the Sahara Desert, including parts of North Africa a ...
