Palace House Stakes
The Palace House Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 5 furlongs (1,006 metres) on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in late April or early May. History The event is named after Palace House, a famous building in Newmarket on the site of a royal residence of King Charles II. The race was established in 1961, and the first running was won by Galivanter. It was given Group 3 status when the present grading system was introduced in 1971. The Palace House Stakes is currently held on the opening day of Newmarket's Guineas Festival meeting. It is run on the same day as the 2000 Guineas. Newmarket Racecourse is a British Thoroughbred horse racing venue in Newmarket, Suffolk, Newmarket, Suffolk, comprising two individual racecourses: the Rowley Mile and the July Course. Ron Hutchinson (jockey)
Ron Hutchinson (born 14 December 1927) is a retired Australian jockey, who won over 1000 races in Europe. In a 37-year racing career, he was successful across three continents. Early life Ronald Robert Hutchinson was born in Yarraville, eight kilometres outside Melbourne, to a plumber and a housewife. At the time, Yarraville was a heavily industrialised suburb which was struggling amid the Great Depression. He attended the Powell Street State School in the town. He had no contact with horses as a young child, but became a fan of jockeys Harold Badger and Bill Duncan through reading about them in newspapers. He was also inspired by the 1938 film Stablemates and the horseracing newsreels shown before films at the local Sun Theatre where he worked selling sweets. Henry Candy
Henry David Nicholas Bourne Candy (born 28 October 1944) is a British racehorse trainer who specialises in training horses for Flat racing. Candy gained early experience in Australia and France before assisting his father, Derrick Candy, at his stables in Kingstone Warren in Oxfordshire. Henry Candy took over the licence at the stables at the end of the 1973 season. Earlier in his career he had success with runners in middle-distance races, including Master Willie and Time Charter but has been more notable in the 2010s with his victories in sprint races with Twilight Son and Limato. Ian Balding
Ian Balding (born 7 November 1938) is a retired British horse trainer. He is the son of the polo player and racehorse trainer Gerald Matthews Balding and the younger brother of trainer Toby Balding. Ian Balding was born in the US, but his family returned to the UK in 1945. He was educated at Marlborough College and Millfield school in Somerset. He went up to Christ's College, Cambridge, in 1959 to read Rural Estate Management, where he played Rugby for the university team, gaining his Blue in 1961 at full back. He started training in 1964. Kingsclere became his home at the age of 26 and it is here that earned his reputation as an internationally respected trainer. Luca Cumani
Luca M. Cumani (born 7 April 1949, in Milan, Italy) is an Italian thoroughbred horse trainer and breeder. He trained at Bedford House Stables in Newmarket from 1976 to 2019. He has trained a multitude of high-profile horses, including seven Classic race winners, two Epsom Derby winners in Kahyasi (1988) and High-Rise (1998), as well as a Breeders' Cup Mile winner in Barathea (1994). Dick Hern
William Richard Hern (20 January 1921 – 22 May 2002) was an English Thoroughbred racehorse trainer and winner of sixteen British Classic Races between 1962 and 1995, and was Champion Trainer on four occasions. Following his early career in the Army (Major), he became a riding instructor, including a spell as instructor to the Olympic gold medal-winning team in 1952. His first training licence was as private trainer to Major Lionel Holliday in 1958, at La Grange Stables in Newmarket, before moving to West Ilsley at the end of the 1962 season to take over from R. J. "Jack" Colling. Hern became a St. Leger Stakes specialist, winning the event six times. William Buick
William Buick (born 22 July 1988) is a Norwegian-British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014 he was stable jockey to John Gosden. In 2015 he signed with Godolphin. Michael J. Kinane (born 22 June 1959, Killenaule, County Tipperary) is an Irish former flat racing jockey. He had a 34-year career, retiring on 8 December 2009.
