Palace Daendels
The A.A. Maramis Building is an early 19th century building in Jakarta, Indonesia. It hosts the headquarters of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. The building was built following Dutch East Indies Governor General Herman Willem Daendels's intention to move the official residence of the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from the decaying Old Town to the southern suburb of Weltevreden. It was never used as an official residence of the Governor-General. It is the second oldest surviving building in Central Jakarta (after Istana Negara) in terms of when the construction was started, and the largest private residence ever built in Jakarta. Colonial buildings and structures in Jakarta include those that were constructed during the Dutch East Indies, Dutch colonial period of Indonesia. The period (and the subsequent style) succeeded the earlier period when Jakarta (known then as Jayakarta/Jacatra), governed by the Sultanate of Banten, were completely eradicated and replaced with a walled city of Batavia. Alexander Andries Maramis (20 June 1897 – 31 July 1977), more commonly known simply as A. A. Maramis, was an Indonesian politician and National Hero of Indonesia, who was involved in the struggle for independence. He was a member of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Independence (BPUPK), the organization which drafted the Constitution of Indonesia. In the early stages of the Indonesian government, following the Proclamation of Independence, he served as both Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs. After the end of the Indonesian National Revolution, he served as the Indonesian ambassador to several nations, including the Philippines, West Germany, and the Soviet Union. Jonkheer Jan Willem Janssens GCMWO (12 October 1762 – 23 May 1838) was a Dutch nobleman, soldier and statesman who served both as the governor of the Dutch Cape Colony and governor-general of the Dutch East Indies.
