Pakistani Semi-classical Music
In South Asia, semi-classical music (Hindi: नीम क्लासिकी मौसीक़ी, Urdu: نیم کلاسیکی موسیقی; ''neem klaseeki moseeqi'') is derived from Hindustani classical music that is often combined with filmi music. It aired on Pakistan Television from 1964 (its establishment) to the late 1980s. Although, this music is still produced, it is not as frequent. Pakistani popular music or shortly Pakistani pop music refers to popular music forms in Pakistan. Pakistani pop is a mixture of traditional Pakistani classical music and western influences of jazz, rock and roll, hip hop and disco sung in various languages of Pakistan, including Urdu. The popularity of music is based on the individual sales of a single, viewership of its music video or the singer's album chart positions. Apart from within Pakistan, Pakistani pop music has also achieved an influential following and popularity in neighboring countries and is listened by members of the Pakistani diaspora, especially in the Middle East, Europe and North America. Ustad Ghulam Ali ( ur, ; 5 December 1940) is a Pakistani ghazal singer of the Patiala Gharana. He has also been a prominent playback singer in Bollywood. Iqbal Bano ( ur, ; born 1928 in Delhi – died 21 April 2009 in Lahore) was a ghazal singer from Pakistan.
