National Paralympic Committee Of Pakistan
The National Paralympic Committee of Pakistan is the primary body in Pakistan for the promotion of sports for the disabled. The key focus of the committee is to organize, supervise and co-ordinate games and competitions for the disable. The organisation is also the body responsible for selecting athletes to represent Pakistan at the Paralympic Games and other international athletic meets and for managing the Pakistani teams at these events. Dr. Tariq Mustafa is the current president of the organization, while Imran Jamil Shami is the general secretary. The 2012 Summer Paralympics, branded as the London 2012 Paralympic Games, were an international multi-sport parasports event held from 29 August to 9 September 2012 in London, England, United Kingdom. Haider Ali (athlete)
Haider Ali (born 12 December 1984 in Gujranwala) is an all-around Pakistani para-athlete who created history at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China by winning Pakistan's first ever Paralympic games medal, a silver. He also shared a new world record with his jump of 6.44 meters at the Games. He has competed at the Paralympics on four occasions in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. He has the unique record of winning a country's first ever Paralympic gold, silver and bronze medals as he is the only Pakistani to have won a medal in Paralympic history. Pakistan competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's sixteenth appearance at the Olympics, except the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of its support to the United States boycott. Pakistan Olympic Association sent a total of 21 athletes, 19 men and 2 women, to compete in 4 different sports. Four of their athletes were selected to the team under wild card entries, without having qualified. Men's field hockey was the only team-sport in which Pakistan had its representation in these Olympic games. Field hockey team captain Sohail Abbas was the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
