Pak'nSave
PAK'nSAVE (stylised PAK'nSAVE, originally PAK 'N SAVE) is a New Zealand discount food warehouse chain owned by the Foodstuffs cooperative. It is one of the three main supermarket chains, alongside Countdown and New World. There are 56 stores across the country, including 17 in Auckland. The stores sell a range of produce, including meat, fish, bread, liquor and other groceries. Stores are large and have a no frills environment, often with unlined interiors and concrete floors. Customers are left to pack their own bags, however (since 2019) plastic bags are no longer sold at checkout. Customers are instead expected to supply their own re-usable bags. Many stores offer boxes set on or under a large desk where customers can pack their groceries for easier convenience. Foodstuffs (NZ) Ltd is a New Zealand grocery company owned by the retailers' cooperatives, Foodstuffs North Island Limited and Foodstuffs South Island Limited. Together, the two cooperatives collectively control an estimated 53% of the New Zealand grocery market. Countdown (supermarket)
Countdown is an Australian-owned New Zealand full-service supermarket chain and subsidiary of Woolworths New Zealand, itself a subsidiary of Australia's Bella Vista’s Woolworths Group. It is one of two supermarket chains in New Zealand in terms of number of stores, although the rival Foodstuffs chain has a larger number of premises including smaller retail stores in rural areas. Paul Ego
Paul Ego (birth name Paul Jones) is a Billy T Award winning New Zealand comedian. He is best known both for his current role as leader of Team One on the New Zealand comedy current affairs panel show 7 Days, and as the voice artist of the Stickman in television advertisements for PAK'nSAVE supermarket. Ego's first gig was in London in 1994 and upon returning to New Zealand in 1995 he soon became a regular sight on the pro-comedy skyline. Ego's Breakfast Radio career began in 2000 with his role on the Kim & Corbett Breakfast Show on Auckland's More FM. His role on the award-winning show involved writing comedy scripts and voicing many of the shows regular characters. In 2006 Paul moved to NZ's Rock Network and he is now one quarter of ’The Morning Rumble’, the 1 Music Breakfast Show in the country. New World (supermarket)
New World is a New Zealand full-service supermarket chain. Each store is independently owned and operated, and is part of one of two Foodstuffs' co-operatives (Foodstuff North Island and Foodstuffs South Island). Other independently owned and operated members of the Foodstuffs co-operatives include Pak'nSave and Four Square stores. History Founded in 1963, New World was the first American-style full-service supermarket brand of Foodstuffs, and the second in New Zealand (after Foodtown).
