Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage." In medical diagnosis, pain is regarded as a symptom of an underlying condition. Pains (pronounced: pah-EENS) is a Brazilian municipality located in the center of the state of Minas Gerais. Its population as of 2020 was 8,296 people living in a total area of 418 km². The city belongs to the meso-region of Oeste de Minas and to the micro-region of Formiga. It became a municipality in 1943.
