Page (band)
Page is a Swedish synthpop band. Page is often credited with being the first band to bring synthpop music to Sweden. Their music and band members (particularly Eddie Bengtsson) influenced many subsequent Swedish synthpop acts, including Elegant Machinery, S.P.O.C.K, Sista Mannen På Jorden and KieTheVez. Formed in 1980 by Eddie Bengtsson and Marina Schiptjenko, soon joined by Anders Eliasson, the band quickly gained underground cult-status releasing many singles such as ''Dansande man'', ''Som skjuten ur en kanon'', ''Blå fötter'' and ''Som en vind''. Though most of their important influential work was released in the 1980s their first album, the self-titled ''Page'', was released in 1991. Page continued releasing music throughout the 90's but is still most fondly remembered in the Swedish synthpop scene for their early singles, especially ''Dansande Man''. Synthpop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. BWO (band)
BWO was a Swedish electropop group, formed in 2003. Prior to early 2006 they used the name Bodies Without Organs. In Sweden they have enjoyed considerable commercial success throughout their career, so far notching up 15 Top 40 singles, including a Number 1 with "Temple of Love", and five Top 10 albums including a Number 1 with '' Halcyon Days'', and have won several major Swedish music awards. Since the mid-2000s, BWO have had significant chart success in several Eastern European countries including Ukraine and Russia, and some moderate success in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and the United States. 2009 saw a major breakthrough for the band in Japan, China and Taiwan with the compilation album ''Sunshine in the Rain'', targeted at the Asian market. Sista Mannen På Jorden (meaning "Last Man on Earth") or SMPJ is a Swedish synthpop group formed in 1986 by Eddie Bengtsson and Matts Wiberg. In 2004, Wiberg left the band and was replaced by Christer Hermodsson of S.P.O.C.K in 2005. Background SMPJ was founded in the spring of 1986 by Bengtsson and Wiberg as a reaction against the direction of electronic music at the time; the band traces its influences to artists such as OMD, John Foxx, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and the late 1970s space disco bands such as Cerrone and Ganymed. Marina Schiptjenko
Anna ''Marina'' Schiptjenko (born July 27, 1965, in Malmö, Sweden) is the only female member of the Swedish electronic pop group Bodies Without Organs (now known as BWO). Her mother is Swedish and her father was a Ukrainian refugee from the Soviet Union, thus her Ukrainian surname. She started her music career in the eighties, joining the synthpop band Page. The group stopped producing material in the nineties. She was asked by Alexander Bard to join Vacuum. But since this band had little success, she quit the band, shortly after Alexander left. In 2004, she joined Alexander's new project, BWO. The band is a success in Scandinavia and through Eastern Europe. In 2010, Marina, and fellow Page bandmate Eddie Bengtsson produced and released a new album entitled "Nu" after an entire decade of the band being in hiatus. S.P.O.C.K (aka Star Pilot On Channel K) is a Swedish synthpop band which formed around 1988. Background The band's original lineup was songwriter Eddie Bengtsson (formerly a founding member of Page), Finn Albertsson, and vocalist Alexander Hofman. Over time the members of the band have shifted: Johan Billing was a member of the band from 1994 to 1998, but with the release of "S.P.O.C.K: 1999" (in 1999) the band's lineup changed to one with Alexander Hofman (the band's only remaining founding member), Johan Malmgren (former member of Elegant Machinery and Aaron Sutcliffe) and Christer Hermodsson. Elegant Machinery
Elegant Machinery is a Swedish synthpop band. Borrowing heavily from Depeche Mode, they are one of few recent bands dedicated to making traditional synthpop music. Along with such bands as Page, S.P.O.C.K, Sista Mannen På Jorden and Kiethevez they define the sound of the Swedish synthpop movement. Heavily influenced by acts like Yazoo, The Human League, Depeche Mode, Rational Youth. Robert Enforsen, Richard Jomshof and Leslie Bayne started the band in 1988 under the name Pole Position. Robert Enforsen joined the band as lead vocalist in 1989, and the band released their first demo, at which point they changed their name to Elegant Machinery, a name derived from the album by DATA, a British synthpop group of the 1980s led by Norwegian Georg Kajanus. Due to Leslie Bayne's stagefright, Johan Malmgren joined the band as a tour musician in 1992. He later became a permanent member.
