Pagan Love
''Pagan Love'' is a 1920 American silent film, silent romantic drama film produced and directed by Hugo Ballin and starring his wife Mabel Ballin, Togo Yamamoto, and Rockliffe Fellowes. Its alternate title is ''The Honourable Gentleman'', which is also the title of the short story by Achmed Abdullah that it is based on. The W. W. Hodkinson Corporation and Pathé Exchange handled the distribution. Hugo Ballin
Hugo Ballin NA (March 7, 1879 – November 27, 1956) was an American artist, muralist, author, and film director. Ballin was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and the National Academy of Design. Biography Ballin was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League of New York. When the Wisconsin State Capital was built in the early 20th century, Ballin created 26 murals for its interior. In 1917 he began working for Goldwyn Pictures in New Jersey as an art director and production designer, and in 1921 he moved to Los Angeles at the request of Samuel Goldwyn. He was soon also directing, writing, and producing silent films for his own production company. He was married to the actress Mabel Croft Ballin. When Hollywood began making talking pictures, Ballin left the film industry to return to his first career as a classically trained artist. Charles Fang
Charles Fang was an American actor and comedian who was active in Hollywood primarily during the silent era. He was active on Broadway from 1930 to 1935. He was known during his time as "the greatest Chinese actor in America." Biography Fang was born in San Francisco to parents from Canton, China. He reportedly graduated from Yale University and served in the U.S. Navy before becoming a professional actor on the stage and screen. Reportedly discovered by Rex Ingram, Fang also served as a cultural advisor and interpreter on film sets. He starred in films such as ''Regeneration'' and '' Monkey Business''. Biography After following a business career for some years, he gave it up to go onto the stage in 1907 and later made his entry into films as the redemptive hero of Raoul Walsh's 1915 silent gangster film ''Regeneration''. He appeared mostly in silent films and is probably best known today for his role as gangster Joe Helton in '' Monkey Business'' (1931) starring the Marx Brothers. At one time he was married to the stage actress Lucile Watson. He retired from acting in 1934. Fellowes died in Los Angeles, California in 1950 at the age of 66.
