Pacific Coast Collaborative
The Pacific Coast Collaborative is an international governmental agency formed on June 30, 2008, including the governments of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. The Collaborative elected to study a high-speed rail corridor between metropolitan areas in the member states. High-speed rail (HSR) is a type of rail system that runs significantly faster than traditional rail, using an integrated system of specialised rolling stock and dedicated tracks. While there is no single standard that applies worldwide, lines built to handle speeds above or upgraded lines in excess of are widely considered to be high-speed. The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) is a California state agency established pursuant to the California High-Speed Rail Act to develop and implement high-speed intercity rail service, namely the California High-Speed Rail project. The Pacific Northwest Corridor or the Pacific Northwest Rail Corridor is one of eleven federally designated higher-speed rail corridors in the United States and Canada. The corridor extends from Eugene, Oregon to Vancouver, British Columbia via Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington in the Pacific Northwest region. It was designated a high-speed rail corridor on October 20, 1992, as the one of five high speed corridors in the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA).
