Pablo Iglesias Turrión (; born 17 October 1978) is a Spanish political scientist and former politician. During his political career, he served as Second Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Second Deputy Prime Minister and as Ministry of Social Affairs (Spain), Minister of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda of the Government of Spain from 2020 to 2021. He also served as Member of the Congress of Deputies from 2016 to 2021, representing Madrid (Congress of Deputies constituency), Madrid. Iglesias is a co-founder of Podemos (Spanish political party), Podemos, a left-wing political party that he led from 2014 until his resignation in 2021. Before then, he was a lecturer in political science at the Complutense University of Madrid and TV host. Pablo Iglesias Posse (17 October 1850 – 9 December 1925) was a Spanish socialist and Marxism, Marxist Labour movement, labour leader. He is regarded as the father of Spanish socialism, having founded the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1879 and the Unión General de Trabajadores, Spanish General Workers' Union (UGT) in 1888. Biography Iglesias was born in Ferrol, Spain, Ferrol son to Pedro Iglesias and Juana, humble parents who called him Paulino. He attended school between the ages of six and nine, when his father, a municipal laborer, died. The Workers' Commissions ( es, Comisiones Obreras, CCOO) since the 1970s has become the largest trade union in Spain. 2021 Madrilenian Regional Election
The 2021 Madrilenian regional election was held on Tuesday, 4 May 2021, to elect the 12th Assembly of the Community of Madrid. All 136 seats in the Assembly were up for election. This marked the first time that a regional premier in Madrid made use of the presidential prerogative to call an early election. 2014 European Parliament Election In Spain
The 2014 European Parliament election in Spain was held on Sunday, 25 May 2014, as part of the EU-wide election to elect the 8th European Parliament. All 54 seats allocated to Spain as per the Treaty of Lisbon were up for election. The People's Party (PP) emerged as the largest party overall, albeit with its worst nationwide election result in 25 years with a mere 26.1% of the share and 16 seats, losing 2.6 million votes and 8 seats from its 2009 result. The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) lost 9 seats and 2.5 million votes, obtaining just 23% of the total party vote and 14 seats. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions.
