Pablo D. Abdala (born 14 July 1966) is a List of Uruguayan lawyers, Uruguayan lawyer and politician of the National Party (Uruguay), National Party (PN), serving as President of the :es:Instituto_del_Niño_y_Adolescente_del_Uruguay, Institute of Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU) since 1 April 2020. Born in Montevideo, Abdala attended ''Seminary College'', graduated from University of the Republic (Uruguay), University of the Republic, with a law degree. Biography Early life He is a son of Carlos Abdala, a politician and diplomat. Pablo lived part of his childhood in Paraguay, because his father served as Ambassador of Uruguay to that country. Montevideo () is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Uruguay, largest city of Uruguay. The Armed Forces of Uruguay ( es, Fuerzas Armadas del Uruguay or ''FF.AA. del Uruguay'') consist of an army, navy, and air force. These three branches are constitutionally subordinate to the President of Uruguay through the Minister of Defense. The government has trimmed the armed forces to about 16,800 for the army; 6,000 for the navy; and 3,000 for the air force. As of February 2003, Uruguay has more than 2,500 soldiers deployed on 12 UN Peacekeeping missions. The largest groups are in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Haiti. 2019 Uruguayan Constitutional Referendum
The 2019 Uruguayan constitutional referendum, officially referred to as the referendum for constitutional reform on security matters ( es, plebiscito de reforma constitucional en materia de seguridad), took place alongside general election of that year, on 27 October 2019, to ask the electorate whether a constitutional reform in public security should be approved. The proposed amendments to the Constitution would create a national guard, forbid early release for some serious crimes, introduce life sentences for crimes of rape, sexual abuse or homicide of minors as well as aggravated homicide of adults, and allow the police to conduct night raids. The referendum resulted in 46.8% of the votes cast in favor of amending the Constitution; however, not reaching the necessary 50%, the amendment was not approved, being rejected by 53.7% of the votes. Jorge Washington Larrañaga Fraga (8 August 1956 – 22 May 2021) was an Uruguayan politician of the National Party (PN) who was Minister of the Interior from 1 March 2020 until his death. He also previously served as Intendant of Paysandú from 1990 to 1999, as well as a Senator between 2000 and 2020. Background Larrañaga grew up and attended school in Paysandú. He studied law at the Universidad de la República and practiced until 1990, specializing in civil and labour law.
