Partial Specific Volume
The partial specific volume \bar, express the variation of the extensive volume of a mixture in respect to composition of the masses. It is the partial derivative of volume with respect to the mass of the component of interest. :V=\sum _^n m_i \bar, where \bar is the partial specific volume of a component i defined as: :\bar=\left( \frac \right)_. The PSV is usually measured in milliLiters (mL) per gram (g), proteins > 30 kDa can be assumed to have a partial specific volume of 0.708 mL/g. Experimental determination is possible by measuring the natural frequency of a U-shaped tube filled successively with air, buffer and protein solution. Properties The sum of partial specific volumes of a mixture or solution is an inverse of density of the mixture namely the specific volume of the mixture. :v = \sum_i w_i\cdot \bar = \frac :\sum_i \rho_i \cdot \bar = 1 Notes See also *Partial molar property *Apparent molar property In thermodynamics, an apparent molar property of a solutio ...

The primary function for most of these vessels is logistic support and transportation of goods, tools, equipment and personnel to and from offshore oil platforms and other offshore structures. In recent years, a new generation of platform supply vessels entered the market, usually equipped with Class 1 or Class 2 dynamic positioning system. They belong to the broad category of offshore vessels (OSVs) that include platform supply vessels (PSVs), crane vessels (CV) and well stimulation vessels (WSVs), anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTSVs) and offshore construction vessels (OCVs). Larger offshore vessels have extensive sophisticated equipment including remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) and tend to accommodate a larger number of people (more than 100). Pressure Safety Valve
A safety valve is a valve that acts as a fail-safe. An example of safety valve is a pressure relief valve (PRV), which automatically releases a substance from a boiler, pressure vessel, or other system, when the pressure or temperature exceeds preset limits. Pilot-operated relief valves are a specialized type of pressure safety valve. A leak tight, lower cost, single emergency use option would be a rupture disk. Safety valves were first developed for use on steam boilers during the Industrial Revolution. Early boilers operating without them were prone to explosion unless carefully operated. Vacuum safety valves (or combined pressure/vacuum safety valves) are used to prevent a tank from collapsing while it is being emptied, or when cold rinse water is used after hot CIP (clean-in-place) or SIP (sterilization-in-place) procedures. When sizing a vacuum safety valve, the calculation method is not defined in any norm, particularly in the hot CIP / cold water scenario, but some manu ...

Pressure Support Ventilation
Pressure support ventilation (PSV), also known as pressure support, is a spontaneous mode of ventilation. The patient initiates every breath and the ventilator delivers support with the preset pressure value. With support from the ventilator, the patient also regulates his own respiratory rate and tidal volume. In Pressure Support, the set inspiratory pressure support level is kept constant and there is a decelerating flow. The patient triggers all breaths. If there is a change in the mechanical properties of the lung/thorax and patient effort, the delivered tidal volume will be affected. The user must then regulate the pressure support level to obtain desired ventilation.MAQUET, "Modes of ventilation in SERVO-s, invasive and non-invasive", 2009 MAQUET Critical Care AB, Order No 66 61 131 Oxygenation Pressure support improves oxygenation, ventilation and decreases work of breathing. Ventilation Pressure support improves patient ventilation. Work of breathing Pressure suppo ...
