PNS Iqbal
The PNS Iqbal (also known as Naval Base Iqbal ) is the naval base that serves as the training and operating headquarters of the Navy Special Service Group, having been established in 1966 at the Karachi coast in Sindh in Pakistan. Besides serving as the headquarter of the Navy Special Service Group, the PNS Iqbal is a submarine base for the ''Cosmos''-class submarine, and served as a submarine base since its establishment in 1968. In 1991, the PNS Iqbal served as the operation base for the Pakistan Marines when the 1st Marines Battalion was established before the Marines were relocated at Qasim Fort located in the Qasim Marines Base in Karachi coast. Naval Strategic Forces Command (Pakistan)
The Naval Strategic Forces Command ( ur, بحریہ حکمت عملی افواج reporting name: NSFC), is one of the three major unified commands of the Pakistan Armed Forces responsible for the defence and protection of naval and naval-nuclear assets in the country. The command was commissioned on 24 June 2004, at Naval Headquarters (NHQ) after the concept was approved by then-Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah. Cosmos-class Submarine
The Cosmos-class submarine, officially Cos.Mo.S MG-110 locally designated as X-Craft, are the class of midget submarines designed by the Italian firm Cos.Mo.S, in Karachi Naval Dockyard in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The Cosmos-class submarines are currently stationed in PNS Iqbal and are used as the SDV for the SEAL Teams of the Navy Special Service Group, since 1993. Despite classified as submarine by its builder in Karachi, the Cosmos, nonetheless, fall under the responsibility of the Naval Strategic Forces Command for planning development while the Commander of the Coastal Areas remains in charge for the operational deployments only. Qasim Fort
Manora Fort is a fort that was built to protect the harbour of Karachi. Originally erected as a mud fortress by the Talpur Mirs in 1797, the fort was captured by the British in 1839 - after which they seized control of Karachi and lower Sindh. History Establishment Manora Fort was built by the Talpur dynasty in 1797 in order to protect the port, which handled trade with Oman and Bahrain. The fort was built at the top of cliffs that were in height, with a small mosque and round tower. The fort was used to repel attacks by Qasimi pirates who threatened and sometimes raided Karachi Harbor in the early 19th century.
