PD Notebook
''PD Note'' (Korean language: PD수첩) is an investigative journalism program on MBC in South Korea. ''PD Note'' is noteworthy for its role in stimulating the US beef protest and raising questions regarding the subsequently-discredited Hwang Woo-suk stem cell cloning. Name The "PD" is a Konglish and Japanglish abbreviation for " producer". Planning and Overview It is an investigative journalism program in which the producers follow up or directly cover in-depth reports on social issues, not just the reported content. The first broadcast began on May 8, 1990, and it is being broadcast on a recorded basis. Due to the nature of the program, a protest from the target of the report and sometimes a request for suspension from the government caused a broadcast interruption or disruption in broadcast. On the other hand, this program moved from November 8, 2001 to the late-night time on Thursday, due to the new establishment of the Monday-Tuesday sitcom 'Lovers'. However, after ...

Investigative Journalism
Investigative journalism is a form of journalism in which reporters deeply investigate a single topic of interest, such as serious crimes, political corruption, or corporate wrongdoing. An investigative journalist may spend months or years researching and preparing a report. Practitioners sometimes use the terms "watchdog reporting" or "accountability reporting." Most investigative journalism has traditionally been conducted by newspapers, wire services, and freelance journalists. With the decline in income through advertising, many traditional news services have struggled to fund investigative journalism, due to it being very time-consuming and expensive. Journalistic investigations are increasingly carried out by news organizations working together, even internationally (as in the case of the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers), or by organizations such as ProPublica, which have not operated previously as news publishers and which rely on the support of the public and benefact ...

Konglish
Konglish (; ), more formally Korean-style English (; ) is a style of English used by Korean speakers. The name is a portmanteau of the names of the two languages and was first recorded earliest in 1975. Other less common terms are ''Korlish'' (recorded from 1988), ''Korenglish'' (1992), ''Korglish'' (2000) and ''Kinglish'' (2000). Konglish comprises English loanwords that have been appropriated into Korean and includes many that are used in ways that are not readily understandable to native English speakers. A common example is the Korean term "hand phone" for the English "mobile phone". Konglish also has direct English loanwords, mistranslations from English to Korean, or pseudo-English words coined in Japan that came to Korean usage. The use of Konglish is widespread in South Korea as a result of U.S. cultural influence, but it is not familiar to North Koreans. English is also found in the physical domains of the main streets, restaurants, and shopping areas in Seoul and th ...

South Korean Illegal Surveillance Incident
The South Korean illegal surveillance incident ( ko, 민간인 불법사찰 사건, or ''illegal civilian surveillance incident'') was alleged to have occurred in 2010 when the Civil Service Ethics Division (공직윤리지원관실) under the Prime Minister's Office of South Korea inspected a civilian, a political action that is illegal under the South Korean conventions. The incident re-emerged in early 2012 as the election approached. Under Lee Myung-bak's presidency, the South Korean intelligence services (NIS) orchestrated campaigns to manipulate public opinion. NIS-led "NGOs" have conducted media campaigns against opponents of the government; denounced the "buses of hope" (which emerged to support a trade union movement in 2011), criticized the proposals for free school meals and free medical care and called for the disbandment of the Democratic Labour Party. In 2012, the NIS conducted a slander campaign against the presidential candidate Moon Jae-in in order to divert vot ...

2008 South Korean Candlelight Vigil
The 2008 US beef protest in South Korea was a series of protest demonstrations made between 24 May 2008 and mid August 2008. against president Lee Myung-bak in Seoul, Korea. The protest involved several hundred thousand and at its height up to one million people. The protest began after the South Korean government reversed a ban on US beef imports. The ban had been in place since December 2003, when mad cow disease was detected in US beef cattle. The protests occurred on a background of talks concerning the US-Korea free trade agreement. Critics accuse the move as an attempt by the Korean government to please the US government. Local media also criticized the government's attempt. An example of this is the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) ''PD Note'' program "Is American Beef Really Safe from Mad Cow Disease?" televised on 27 April 2008. Lee Myung-bak's popularity plummeted after the decision and protests. Background South Korea was once the third-largest importer o ...

2012 In South Korea
1 (one, unit, unity) is a number representing a single or the only entity. 1 is also a numerical digit and represents a single unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of ''unit length'' is a line segment of length 1. In conventions of sign where zero is considered neither positive nor negative, 1 is the first and smallest positive integer. It is also sometimes considered the first of the infinite sequence of natural numbers, followed by  2, although by other definitions 1 is the second natural number, following  0. The fundamental mathematical property of 1 is to be a multiplicative identity, meaning that any number multiplied by 1 equals the same number. Most if not all properties of 1 can be deduced from this. In advanced mathematics, a multiplicative identity is often denoted 1, even if it is not a number. 1 is by convention not considered a prime number; this was not universally accepted until the mid-20th century. Additionally, 1 is ...

Hwang Woo-suk
Hwang Woo-suk ( ko, 황우석, born January 29, 1953)Sources disagree on the birthdate due to confusion between different calendar systems. Hwang was born on January 29, 1953 in the Gregorian calendar. However, older Koreans often list their birthdate in the lunisolar Korean calendar, which in this case is December 15, 1952. This date is sometimes repeated in English-language media without specifying that it is in the Korean calendar, causing further confusion when the Gregorian year and Korean calendar month and day are used together to produce an incorrect birthdate of December 15, 1953. Sources specifying a December 15, 1952 birthdate include thLos Angeles Timesan Thand states the birthdate is January 29, 1953. is a South Korean veterinarian and researcher.
