PCL-171
The PCL-171 is an assault vehicle-mounted 122 mm self-propelled howitzer used by the China, Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Force. Development The PCL-171 made its first public appearance during a CCTV report of an exercise in December 2020. According to the report, it entered service in the second half of 2020. It was designed as an even more mobile and lightweight platform to complement the PCL-161, which is based on a larger truck chassis but also equipped with a 122 mm howitzer. Design Each battery consists of 6 PCL-171 guns, command vehicles, ammunition vehicles, reconnaissance vehicles and other equipment. Some of the non-gun vehicles are based on Dongfeng Mengshi CTL181A 4×4 armoured vehicles, with at least two variants in service. Dongfeng Mengshi
Dongfeng Mengshi is a family of 4×4 MRAP/off-road vehicles developed by Dongfeng Motor Group. Early generations of the vehicle are built with imported Hummer H1 chassis, while later generations of the vehicles are of indigenous design. Dongfeng Mengshi generally follows the trend of American military requirements. For example, CSK-141 is the Chinese equivalent of an armor-plated reinforced Humvee, while CSK-181 is the Chinese equivalent of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. EQ2050 CSK-131 Dongfeng CSK131 is Chinese light protected vehicle developed by Dongfeng Corporation. Within the terminology are the self-propelled gun, self-propelled howitzer, self-propelled mortar, and rocket artillery. The PCL-161 is a truck-mounted 122 mm self-propelled howitzer used by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Force. Development The PCL-161 was first unveiled while doing exercises in Tibet Autonomous Region in October 2020. It is speculated to be a successor of the 122 mm truck mounted howitzer PCL-09. Design PCL-161 features a 122 mm howitzer with semi-automatic loader and digital fire control system. The range is 22 km with conventional ammunition and 30 km with rocket-assisted projectiles. It features various improvements over the PCL-09, including better firing accuracy, the ability to fire directly in the forward direction of the vehicle.
