PAK (file Format)
This is a list of file formats used by computers, organized by type. Filename extension it is usually noted in parentheses if they differ from the file format name or abbreviation. Many operating systems do not limit filenames to one extension shorter than 4 characters, as was common with some operating systems that supported the File Allocation Table (FAT) file system. Examples of operating systems that do not impose this limit include Unix-like systems, and Microsoft Windows NT, 95- 98, and ME which have no three character limit on extensions for 32-bit or 64-bit applications on file systems other than pre-Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.5 versions of the FAT file system. Some filenames are given extensions longer than three characters. While MS-DOS and NT always treat the suffix after the last period in a file's name as its extension, in UNIX-like systems, the final period does not necessarily mean that the text after the last period is the file's extension. Some file fo ...

Computer
A computer is a machine that can be programmed to Execution (computing), carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations (computation) automatically. Modern digital electronic computers can perform generic sets of operations known as Computer program, programs. These programs enable computers to perform a wide range of tasks. A computer system is a nominally complete computer that includes the Computer hardware, hardware, operating system (main software), and peripheral equipment needed and used for full operation. This term may also refer to a group of computers that are linked and function together, such as a computer network or computer cluster. A broad range of Programmable logic controller, industrial and Consumer electronics, consumer products use computers as control systems. ACE (compression File Format)
In computing, ACE is a proprietary data compression archive file format developed by Marcel Lemke, and later bought by e-merge GmbH. The peak of its popularity was 1999–2001, when it provided slightly better compression rates than RAR, which has since become more popular. WinAce WinAce, maintained by e-merge GmbH, is used to compress and decompress ACE files under Microsoft Windows. When installed, it lets the user choose between paying for a registration or installing WhenU SaveNow adware. e-merge GmbH also produces a Commandline ACE for DOS; and a freeware command-line interface decompression tool for Linux (i386) and macOS called "Unace". e-merge GmbH also provides several libraries for developers, including a freeware decompression DLL called "unace.dll". Some third-party archivers can read the format using this DLL. None of the above is open source free software. On November 23, 2007, version 2.69 of WinACE was released, including a less-intrusive adware application, ...

NTBackup
NTBackup (or Windows Backup) is the built-in backup application introduced in Windows NT 3.51 and included in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. NTBackup comprises a command-line utility and a set of wizard interfaces that provide multiple options to create, customize, and manage backups, and it is integrated with Shadow Copy and Task Scheduler. NTBackup creates backups in a proprietary BKF file format to external sources including floppy disks, hard drives, tape drives, and ZIP drives. NTBackup is replaced by Backup and Restore and WBAdmin starting with Windows Vista, which provide similar functionality and instead use the Virtual Hard Disk file format to backup content; however, in Windows Vista, it is possible to restore NTBackup by copying necessary files from Windows XP. Windows Server Backup replaces NTBackup beginning with Windows Server 2008; neither Backup and Restore nor Windows Server Backup support the use of tape drives. For read ...

''Halo'' is a military science fiction media franchise, originally developed by Bungie and currently managed and developed by 343 Industries, part of Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios. The series launched in 2001 with the first-person shooter video game '' Halo: Combat Evolved'' and its tie-in novel, '' The Fall of Reach''. The latest main game, ''Halo Infinite'', was released in 2021. ''Combat Evolved'' started life as a real-time strategy game, before morphing into a first-person shooter and releasing as an exclusive on Microsoft's new Xbox video game console after Bungie was acquired by the company. Bungie regained its independence in 2007, releasing additional ''Halo'' games through 2010. Aegisub
Aegisub is a subtitle editing application. It is the main tool of fansubbing, the practice of creating or translating unofficial subtitles for visual media by fans. It is the successor of the original SubStation Alpha and Sabbu. Aegisub's design emphasizes on timing, styling of subtitles, and the creation of karaoke. It allows for many video processing bindings to process the timing, such as FFmpeg and Avisynth. It can also be extended with the Lua and MoonScript scripting languages. The app's native subtitle format is Advanced SubStation Alpha, which supports subtitle positioning and styling. Aegisub can export subtitles to other common formats, such as SubRip's ".srt" format, but at the cost losing all features save the raw text and basic timing. In fansubbing, Aegisub is used for translating, timing, editing, typesetting, quality checking, karaoke timing and karaoke effecting. Many groups use different tools for some of those steps, however, such as Adobe After Ef ...

SubStation Alpha

It is also the name of the popular, now discontinued tool used to edit subtitles. It's not commonly used professionally except by Crunchyroll. The current version of SSA is v4.00. There are many freeware and open source subtitling applications that support the SSA format. ARC (file Format)
ARC is a lossless data compression and archival format by System Enhancement Associates (SEA). The file format and the program were both called ARC. The format is known as the subject of controversy in the 1980s, part of important debates over what would later be known as open formats. ARC was extremely popular during the early days of the dial-up BBS. ARC was convenient as it combined the functions of the SQ program to compress files and the LU program to create .LBR archives of multiple files. The format was later replaced by the ZIP format, which offered better compression ratios and the ability to retain directory structures through the compression/decompression process. The .arc filename extension is often used for several unrelated file archive-like file types. For example, the Internet Archive used its own ARC format to store multiple web resources into a single file. The FreeArc archiver also uses .arc extension, but uses a completely different file format. Nintend ...
