Vladimír Slavínský
Vladimír Slavínský (26 September 1890 16 August 1949) was a Czech film director, screenwriter and actor. Life Vladimír Slavínský was born Otakar Vladimír Pitrman in Dolní Štěpánice, on September 26, 1890. Since his youth he acted in amateur theatres while working as a typesetter. In 1912 he wrote his first two screenplays. After the World War I he co-founded a production company Pojafilm with Alois Jalovec and started directing. He directed mostly sentimental dramas and comedy films, which were very commercially successful at the time. He died in Prague on August 16, 1949. Raoul Marian Kristian Schránil (24 March 1910 – 20 September 1998) was a Czech film actor. Life Schránil was born in Most on 24 March 1910. His father Rudolf Schránil was a government secretary. His mother Alexandra Poláková was a singer. Shortly after his birth he moved to Vienna with his parents. During the World War I he was sent to live with his grandmother in Chotětov. After the war his family moved to Prague. His family friend was an opera singer Emmy Destinn. Schránil was expelled from high school in Prague and went to study in Germany and later in Dijon, France. He spoke Czech, French, German and English. After a recommendation from his cousin, a film director Karl Anton, he was hired in Vlasta Burian's theatre in 1935. His first role was in the film ''Milan Rastislav Štefánik'', where he played a French officer. In the 1930s and 1940s he was often typecast as a romantic lead. Adina Mandlová (28 January 1910 – 16 June 1991) was a Czech stage and film actress. She was one of the leading stars of 1930s and 1940s Czech cinema. She was involved in a number of scandals and love affairs. Life and career Early days She was born Jarmila Anna Františka Marie Mandlová in a middle-class family in Mladá Boleslav. Her father Jan Mandl was a talented pianist who wanted to study music in Vienna, but when his father died, he became a railway inspector. He married his first wife and had two sons – Jan and Karel. When his wife died of tuberculosis, he married Mandlová's mother Anna Krýžová. She was an innkeeper's daughter. Together they had a son Jiří, and finally a daughter Adina. Her father chose her name inspired by Gaetano Donizetti's opera ''L'elisir d'amore''. He made Adina listen to classical music and to play the piano. Jaroslav Marvan (11 December 1901 – 21 May 1974) was a Czech actor. He was born in Prague. He was married since the 1920s with Marie Marvanová and had a daughter (Alena Marvanová) with Alena Jančaříková. He passed his school-leaving exam in 1919 and became a member of the Central Office of posts. He was sent to Uzghorod on business matters (1920–1923). He was a member of Vlasta Burian's Theatre 1926–1943, then of the Vinohradské divadlo (1943–1950) and then of the Městská divadla pražská (1950–1954), from where he became a member of the Národní divadlo (National Theatre), where he served for until two years before his death, in 1972.
