Pēteris Pētersons
Pēteris Pētersons (1923–1998) was a Latvian playwright, theatre director and drama critic, theorist, translator, journalist and social activist. His debut play, ''Cilvēks oktobra vējā'' (''A Man in the October Wind'') came in 1947, and he began directing at the Theatre Institute in 1953. His production of ''Man trīsdesmit gadu'' (''I’m Thirty Years Old'') in 1962 was met with considerable acclaim. He also translated numerous plays and theoretical writings, especially from French. From 1993 until his death he served as President of the Latvian Society and director of the Latvian Centre of the International Theatre Institute, and also served on the Riga City Council. International Theatre Institute
The International Theatre Institute ITI is the world’s largest performing arts organisation, founded in 1948 by theatre and dance experts and UNESCO. It has hosted various events through its history, including the Theatre of Nations, an international festival of performers from around the world staged in different countries, from 1956 until at least the 1980s; and it continues to organise International Dance Day and World Theatre Day every year at the UNESCO, Paris. Riga City Council
Riga City Council ( lv, Rīgas dome) is the government of the city of Riga, the capital of Latvia. Its meeting place is in the Riga Town Hall (''Rīgas rātsnams)'' at the Town Hall Square (''Rātslaukums'') in the very heart of Riga. The Riga City Council consists of 60 councilors who are elected every 4 years is established on the basis of party factions. The work of the Riga City Council is organized by the chairman (occasionally simply called as the mayor of Riga), Deputy Mayors, the Presidium, City Executive Director, District Executive Directors, and the staff of municipal institutions and enterprises.
