Pāremoremo
Pāremoremo is a rural settlement and its mostly rural surrounds about 8 km (5 miles) southwest of Albany, New Zealand, Albany on the northern fringe of Auckland, New Zealand. Coatesville, New Zealand, Coatesville is about 7 km to the north, and Riverhead, New Zealand, Riverhead is about 8 km to the west. Pāremoremo is home to New Zealand's only maximum security prison. History Pāremoremo is the location where Te Ākitai Waiohua ancestor and grandmother of Kiwi Tāmaki, Rangi-hua-moa, ate the final moa eggs known to Tāmaki Māori. In the 1840s, Maurice and Mary Kelly operated a timber business at Pāremoremo and Albany. Pāremoremo was originally a small community on the Upper Waitematā Harbour which saw European settlement grow following the construction of a wharf at the foot of Attwood Road. Upper Waitematā Harbour
The Upper Waitematā Harbour is an estuary of the Waitematā Harbour in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It flows south-east from the town of Riverhead, and was historically the border between Waitakere City and North Shore City in Auckland. Geography The Upper Waitematā Harbour is an estuary of the Waitematā Harbour, which flows into the central Waitematā Harbour through a narrow outlet. Much of the Upper Waitematā Harbour area contains mangrove forests, and areas of mangrove forest that transitions into forests. Major tributaries of the Upper Waitematā Harbour include the Brigham Creek, Rangitopuni Stream, Paremoremo Creek, Lucas Creek, and Oruamo or Hellyers Creek. During the Last Glacial Maximum (known locally as the Ōtira Glaciation) when sea-levels were significantly lower, the Upper Waitematā Harbour was the source of a river that forms the modern Waitematā Harbour.
