Pétange Railway Station
Pétange railway station ( lb, Gare Péiteng, french: Gare de Pétange, german: Bahnhof Petingen) is a railway station serving Pétange, in south-western Luxembourg. It is operated by Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, the state-owned railway company. The station is the main terminus of Line 60, which connects Luxembourg City to the Red Lands of the south of the country. It is also located on Line 70, which connects Luxembourg City to the south-west, continuing to Athus in Belgium and Longwy in France. The station was created as the main hub of the Prince Henri Railway. Adjacent to the CFL station is a platform served by Train 1900. From here the line runs up the hill to Fond-de-Gras. It originally served the region's iron mines. Athus
Athus (german: Athem, lb, Attem, wa, Atu) is a part of Aubange city Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Aubange, located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. It is located in the far south of the country, just near the borders with France and Luxembourg. It is a French speaking city, though the traditional language is Luxembourgish. The poet and novelist Hubert Juin (1926–1987) was born in Athus. The city was famous during the 19th and 20th century because of its steelworks factory which closed in the 1970s. Ettelbruck
Ettelbruck ( lb, Ettelbréck , german: Ettelbrück ) is a commune with town status in central Luxembourg, with a population of inhabitants. History Until 1850, both Erpeldange and Schieren were part of the Ettelbruck commune as well, but both towns were detached from Ettelbruck by law on 1 July 1850. Nazi Germany occupied Ettelbruck on 10 May 1940. US forces first liberated the town on 11 September 1944 but Germany retook the town on 16 December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. US General George S. Patton on Christmas Day, 25 December 1944, led US troops in the final liberation of Ettelbruck from Nazi occupation. Industry And Railway Park Fond-de-Gras
The Minett Park Fond-de-Gras is an open-air museum including Fond-de-Gras, the village of Lasauvage, the former open-pit mine "Giele Botter" and the Celtic oppidum of Titelberg. Thanks to its wide thematic variety, the Minett Park offers many complementary activities, the red wire of which is iron ore. It is located in the south of Luxembourg. A little history The iron ore located in the south of Luxembourg is part of the largest European deposit, with an area of nearly 110,000 hectares. Red Lands
The Red Lands form a geographic region in southern and south-western Luxembourg. They are so called for their red iron-laden earth. The Red Lands roughly correspond with the southern part of the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette, along the border with France. Geologically, the Red Lands are sedimentary, mostly sandstones and conglomerates, formed in the Middle Jurassic epoch.
